There are only a few days left to apply to be part of what I think is going to be an inspiring collective journey this year, and I wanted to share a little bit more about why we put it together in this way, and why I think you should sign up if you can with one of the 12 hosts ♥️
We started off with knowing that we wanted to explore more deeply as peer groups, how we even start to reimagine + practice new economic possibility at a neighbourhood scale. We knew from previous experiences starting from a learning circle, a book club, a small group to explore
.. deeply together, helps us all to have a similar starting point even if we interpret the ideas differently. We knew our friends at the incredible @EnrolYourself were experts in peer groups + how to explore ideas, + go on learning journeys together.

Starting with a book, sticky ideas, + global movement such as #DoughnutEconomics means we are part of a global movement of peers taking the ideas of the page, + putting them in practice, as well open sourcing progress on a global platform @DoughnutEcon.

We know we wanted to be able to do multiple things simultaneously:
+ spend time deeply with ideas, not just rush to action, explore histories, roots, + possible futures.
+ take the ideas off the pages and practice the futures we want to see.
+ share progress, possibilities, ..
… potential ways forward in increasingly uncertain, entangled, emergent and emergency times.
+ explore, value + centre many ways of being, knowing, + doing in the process.

We’ve started to prototype this with our 1st neighbourhood learning circle focused on #BraidingSweetgrass.
Which we will be repeating, but seeing the power of being in relationship with the ideas, practice, and learning from each other simultaneously was glorious. And being able to centre many different ways of learning, being able to say that no way is more important that the other…
… that theory, practice, literature, reflection, action, + many peoples different ways of engaging, processing, learning, doing are valued, everyone has something to learn, everything has something to share, + we can learn from elders, visionaries, ideas, books in ..
.. many different ways, holding them together in high esteem. Being patience with them, each other, compounding our learn whilst sitting in the urgency of these times, going from what is, to what might be, + recognising our generation as on that transition team.
There will be multiple fractals of peers. From partners learning together such as @DoughnutEcon, @EnrolYourself, @CIVIC_SQUARE and our wider partners + funders, 12 hosts who are a group of peers, who all will have 10-12 peers in their groups. We can learn together as a …
… global cohort what works, how we best learn together, go deeper, move to action in urgent times, but grounding ourselves in the ideas deep enough to feel confident, emboldened, knowledge, and fundamentally starting from @KateRaworth’s fundamental of ‘designing to distribute’..
… my overarching learning question designing, and crafting this is exactly how to do we do that in practice, how do you take ideas such as @DoughnutEcon, or @Trees_AI or so much more + practice it in the everyday, both deeply locally, whilst understanding the global entanglement
… + urgency of these times. Knowing, many of the things in this thread can be true together. 1/2 the programme will be a beautiful deep dive into the book + ideas in your peer group. The other half will be exploring your personal learning question deeper + taking the ideas ..
.. off the page. You will have something to learn, something to share, + we all have a responsibility to where we are now as a society, + to actively remake, reimagine, rewire just, equitable, safe futures + what better place to start that our streets, households, neighbourhoods
… of course it is not at all only this scale that matters, we need change simultaneously at many scales from city, states, nations, regulation, + more. But, this is the scale we feel most well placed to organise, spread, + nurture deeper momentum around. We ourselves ..
… at @CIVIC_SQUARE want to be among a movement bustling, inspiring, bold, thoughtful and practicing movement of peers working at this scale. Additionally, I have always been so inspired by @ZahraDavidson’s story of how @EnrolYourself started, when she was looking for a …
… next educational step, a masters, they were expensive, inaccessible + wanted to find a better way to do this. More affordable, more peer led + creating spaces where everyone’s knowledge is valued, + we can share + learn, + practice, in compounding cycles of learning …
Alongside, a your own peer group, we will be hosting whole group gatherings, spaces to learn, + curating incredible speakers, workshops, experiences all year for everyone together too. So, I short I think you should sign up for many reasons, if you want to actively shape ..
… + grow this movement + work, if you want to learn, if you want practice, if you want to be part of something with enough structure to help us movement forward, but not so much you can’t shape your journey, it you want to turn your apathy, or exhaustion, anger or frustration ..
… in how those governing us, are governing, + transform it into something more generative, if you want to inspire those around you to do so too. It might be some of this, or all of this, but I think it’s going to be absolutely incredible year ahead, + it’s an honour to ..
… have the chance to put this together. If you are a funder wanting to invest, grow, accelerate this work, also get in touch, perhaps also be an invested peer? For now, check out the hosts, apply now: bit.ly/DoughnutJourne…
We’d love to hear from people, writers, artists wanting to document the journey, learnings and more through the year, as well as those wanting to invest in the lab, and space to host this kind of work.
I’d love if you didn’t leave it until the last moment either, the 12 hosts are everyday people with jobs, lives and will be doing all the sifting of their amazing applications, and it would be amazing for them if it wasn’t last minute stress ♥️
This isn’t a programme that has the answers, no one has the answers, it’s a platform, an invitation, just enough structure for us organise together, learn together, move forward together, so your not a passive recipient, joining means being part of figuring out how we transition.

I don’t have any resolutions it’s not really my style, but I wasn’t able to show up in 2021 as my best self if I’m honest, + I just want to make sure I can this year, + be less irritated, exhausted, + annoyed over small things. Need to find that peace again, + spaciousness ♥️
I do miss having my Nani around so much, they would give me a stern talking to about things, when I was losing my way, or being to harsh or loose tongued, or forgetting how easy it is to make mistakes + not get too ahead of myself, + it’s worse when I’m tired.
The elders though, they the ones a stern straight through the soul talking to can change instantly 💔♥️

The most fabulous @danielyep + @missbbrom got married and it was so full of love, joy, music + community. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness to you both, what legends ♥️
I’ve imagined over the years what @danielyep’s wedding + worship music would be like, + it’s been like fireworks in my head, @missbbrom + @danielyep, + their incredibly talented friends + family were soul stirring, felt like an honour to amongst them all in this special moment ♥️
And obvs @danielyep didn’t disappoint, he’s always thrown great parties, with the best tunes in town, of course only he could meet the most talented musical match and now they will throw even more legendary ones with @missbbrom, some matches are just joy personified 😍

Creating legibility, coherence, being proximate, turning up, synthesising, connecting dots, emergence, knowing how to move through complexity and so on and so on, there’s lots you can do but seek certainty in uncertain, emergent, unknown, complex work is not what you can seek.
The things you can do is actively connect dots, nurture connection, understand, create iterative cycles of legibility, coherence, communication, make visible the invisible, be proximate the lightbulb will switch on, get hands on, create cycles of learning with peers ..
… distribute this, if there connection, tend to these edges, not everyone can go bonkers deep + that’s good. But, your heart and soul has to yearn for that, because it’s always going to be bigger, more complex, more uncertain, unnerving than certain + predictable, everyone ..

I’ve been meaning to do this thread for a while, but never quite get the chance to stop and word it quite right, but over the years with anything #DoughnutEconomics related two things happen, and I thought I’d explain those two things and answer some of the questions people pose.
So, it is really exquisite work, but I hadn’t quite realised that fully until this year, and I think I realise that a bit more now, and wanted to share. Most of my experiences without it were absolutely gut wrenching inspiration, like exploding out my heart type thing when I ..
... heard Kate talk about this idea, it’s so simple, so much common sense, like surely of course we all should have known this, starting back in 2018, when Andy shared the book at the Hub, every talk, every exploration was exactly that so inspiring, so I went back and read ..

Any person, group, community, neighbourhood, org, place getting up and trying to put their frustration, hopes, energy into action isn’t in opposition or anyone else doing anything to other groups, not MPs, not councillors, not councils, not peers, I know everything feels zero ..
... sum, I know so many are incentivised to only be able to do anything they can take credit for, I know it’s hard we have to be aware of power, resource, capacity, but it’s not a zero sum battle against each other, we all need 1000x more to find ways through what is here ..
... and what is coming.

COVID-19 has definitely confirmed one thing UBS, UBI and a overhaul of the purpose of the economy, changing the goal as Kate Raworth would say, is going to have to be at the heart of any chance of anyone having the capacity and structure to think beyond themselves.
The changes will keep happening to us, but whether we can respond or just flap about in a set of crisis one after the other and metaphorically drown from exhaustion of flapping, is going to be down to what conditions we create and wow we are screwed with this government.
Even within the philanthropic and funding world, caution and risk is pretty high even where there is signs of the future it’s not flooded with support or unpacked boldly, climate funds are a subset, this is all terrifying really. The future is being unpacked by heroics ..
