To Alaska (aka Amanda - we figured it out!) Thread - Thank you for sharing this with us. My dad died of cancer when I was 18. Kathryn's parents died within a year of each other when she was 25, her dad of a heart attack while her mom was sick with cancer....
The loss of them has been a huge part of our lives and a huge part of what forged our bond together. We are so sorry for your loss, so moved that this movie meant something to you and your dad and so glad you asked this question....
We hope you find all kinds of ways to keep the memory of him alive and all kinds of ways to move forward & through this pain and loss. Please let us know his name. As Kathryn Mentioned thedinnerparty.org can be a great resource for 20 & 30 somethings who've experienced loss

Stop the execution of Julius Jones. At 19 years old, he was convicted of a murder he says he did not commit. He's lived on death row for 21 years, held in solitary confinement for 23 hrs a day and is allowed one hour of sunlight a day. Please read thread. change.org/p/julius-jones…
Julius was a 19-year-old student athlete with a promising future, attending the University of Oklahoma on an academic scholarship. It is clear that Julius’ lawyer did not adequately defend him, and that explicit racial bias played a significant role in the process.
Eyewitnesses place Mr. Jones at his parents’ home at the time of the murder, miles away from the crime scene. Mr. Jones’ co-defendant admitted to being involved in the crime and is now free after testifying against Julius. He was heard bragging that he “set Julius up.”...

These are words that deeply connected to me and my family from our dear cousin, Rabbi Benjamin Barnett. So grateful for his clarity and grace here.
I want to emphasize that criticism of the nation state of Israel is not the same as criticism of Judaism, Jewish or Israeli people, much the same way as criticism of the American government is not the same as criticizing American people.
