Cryptography is a way to secure information using math.

Some cryptographic protocols, like those that deal with data availability and ZK-SNARKs, rely on something called a trusted setup.
A trusted setup is a process where a group of people create some data that is used every time a certain cryptographic protocol is run. This data is created using some secret information, and the people who create it have to keep that information a secret.
After the data is created, the people who created it don't have to do anything else, just forget the secrets.
