Also I should point out the ridiculousness of the fear assertion.
If the original author wanted to stoke fear I doubt writing a rational 40-50 post thread with references to studies and their conclusions is really going to be the best way to do so.

BTW the panic myth is an old myth that leaders fall into thinking people will panic all the time. Not true.

Attacking the motive is a form of ad hominem, because it just attacks the person making the statement, but does not address the substance.
Here's a link to discussion of "panic myth", which is when leaders believe the population will panic. It doesn't actually happen. That's why it's a myth.
