I’m going to continuously come back here to tweet about my findings and fun comments going through this book. Hope y’all enjoy!
why is it an either or? One can’t read the gospels while ignoring Revelation. If evangelicals only read Revelation while ignoring the ministry of Jesus I’d get it, but istm that evangelicals have no problem focusing on the gospels. Heck, most find Revelation too confusing!
could it also be that *gasp*, the anti feminist Christian movement was simply in continuity with the gender norms established in Sacred Scripture and handed to the Church through the deposit of faith and consistently held until the late 1800’s??? No, it’s purely political duh 💅
Could it also be that *gasp*, these views handed down in the deposit of faith actually touch on cultural issues and that because of this they will be incorporated into political discourse and thereby “influenced” by the political issues of the day??? Hmmmm
AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

White American Evangelicals helped sway Brazil’s election 😎😎😎
In the quote, Du Mez is speaking about an individual woman, Kate Bushnell, who after much study concluded that the biblical evidence for male headship in both the household and the church emerged not from the New Testament text, but rather from English Bible translations.
Just like I did with Jesus & John Wayne, I’m going to read this book and start a thread with all the, uh, let’s say ‘interesting’ highlights in the work. Stay tuned friends!
"He [God] wishes the man to have the preeminence in every way... because she made a bad use of her power over the man, or rather her equality with him, God made her subject to her husband."
-John Chrysostom, 4th to 5th century
The logic is simple:
If abortion is murder and a woman procures an abortion, said woman must be punished through legal action.
Idc what the pro-life movement has supposedly always said. If abortion is murder it ought to be prosecuted as such for the sake of justice.
Ofc every single situation is different. Some women are forced into an abortion against their will, some demonstrate a lack of awareness of what abortion is, some know full well what it is, some celebrate their abortions, yadidadida you've prob heard all the scenarios by now.
Nevertheless, these different situations do not mean no punishment should be enacted. Case-by-case there can be varying degrees of punishment, but to argue for no punishment at all for a woman who has an abortion bc apparently the pro-life movement has "feminist roots" is dumb.
Charles Spurgeon on why so many neglect the Song of Solomon:
"The true reason for all this avoidance of one of the most heavenly portions of God's Word lies in the fact that the spirit of this Song is not easily attained. Its music belongs to the higher spiritual life, and
has no charm for unspiritual ears. The Song occupies a sacred enclosure, into which none may enter unprepared. 'Put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereupon thou standest is holy ground,' is the warning voice from its secret tabernacles. The historical books I may
compare to the outer courts of the temple; the Gospels, the Epistles, and the Psalms, bring us into the holy place, or the court of the priests; but the Song of Solomon is 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑠𝑡 ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑦 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑒—the holy of holies, before which the veil still hangs to many an
