If anyone has more info on Garrett Smith, the guy arrested with explosives near an Oath Keepers’ rally in Florida, pass it along or flag it please. thedailybeast.com/florida-man-ga…
I’m seeing reports that he had a helmet with an iron front logo on it. On the left, below, is what a typical iron front logo looks like. On the right, below, is the best image the police have made available of his helmet.
I’m not seeing an iron front logo.
Police described it as “colors and symbols and arrows…consistent with what some of the protesters in Oregon wore.” Police didn’t use the phrase “iron front” and they didn’t identify which type of protester from Oregon they were referring to (fascist? Anti-fascist? Other?)
Fox News has already decided the logo on the helmet is an iron front & they’re calling him a “man with antifa gear”. Note that the cops said they couldn’t determine ideology.
If Fox has more evidence, they should publish it. If they don’t, this is dangerous speculation at best.
I should add that this guy has ties to a conservative Christian community and went on a Young Life (Christian) retreat in 2019.

Oh wow. The Jan. 6th Committee has in its possession forged certificates of ascertainment declaring Trump and then-Vice President Mike Pence the winners of both Michigan and Arizona and their electors after the 2020 election.
The Jan. 6 Committee also now has emails showing a previously unreported call from Lindsey Graham to Georgia Sec. of State Raffensperger, with Graham telling him some ballots **should be thrown out.**
Also new: Georgia gave the Jan 6th Committee an audio recording between Trump & a Frances Watson, a chief investigator in GA’s Sec of State’s office.
In the call, Trump urged Watson to find “dishonesty” in the state’s election.
I’ve posted/written for years about what I call “outrage trolls” & “outrage baiting”, and it seems like it’s a good time for a reminder, b/c the Texas GOP is 100% using these tactics — and quite successfully!
Here’s (👇) some evidence to start with. But I dug a little deeper…
I looked at 1,000 tweets from @/TexasGOP, spanning nearly 600 days. This gives you a rough idea of what the sample of tweets looked like.
I wanted to see how yesterday’s tweets stacked up against 1000 other tweets they posted, in terms of engagement/RTs/etc.
Looking at that sample, I found that:
-of the top 10 tweets ever posted by @/TexasGOP, 3 were posted in a single day: Yesterday.
-One of those tweets posted yesterday was *the* top tweet (engagement/RTs) they ever posted.
I was about to post a long, thoughtful thread about long-term effects of COVID & how we, as a society, decide on informational priorities & norms, & how right now we’re setting things up so long COVID will be another one of many chronic diseases that Drs don’t take seriously.. /1
But alas, I’m too exhausted to do that right now, so I’ll come back to it at a better time. For now, here’s my adorable, sweet, joyful daughter.
I will mention, though, that I keep coming back to this nightmare scenario where long COVID remains nebulous and primarily affects women & minorities, so over time, Drs start to doubt its existence and refuse proper pain management b/c we taught them that all opiates are evil.
