Arwady: "I continue to see signs of progress here, but it is too soon to be clearly saying that we're turning around. However, let us celebrate good news where we see it, which is that we are averaging 4,793 cases a day right now, which is down 8% from last week."
Arwady: Hospitalizations are up 37% from week prior, with 187 new patients with COVID-19 hospitalized per day.
Arwady: Average of 17 Chicagoans dying per day, also up.
Arwady: Purple is where countries are averaging more than 65 cases per 100,000 people per day. 
Arwady: She remains optimistic we'll see Omicron's peak in January in Chicago.
Arwady: Chicago is down a bit and averaging 177 new cases per 100,000 people per day.
Arwady: Without vaccine, without people protecting themselves, with this kind of a surge, we would've had no option except to shut everything down. Probably would have overwhelmed the hospital system.
Arwady: They don't recommend waiting for a negative PCR to return to work, etc. because it can keep coming up positive even when you're no longer infectious/ill.
Arwady: Cook County Jail has been "really, really good" about dealing with COVID. They have a lot of people coming in with COVID and have been trying to isolate them, etc.
