🧵If you told lifelong Dems in 2019 that by 2022 they'd become single-issue voters for the other side, they would've said you were nuts. They also would've said you were nuts if you told them that after 2019 their opinions would be considered "right wing"...
And yet, here we are! Did you question blue state covid policy? Poof! You're now a Republican. Wanted your kids in school? Welcome to the other side! Said Florida wasn't doing so bad and maybe we could lighten up a bit? Start putting up that DeSantis2024 yard sign!...
They called you an unhinged granny killer faster than you could say "let it rip." But even after they cast you aside & told you to grab your guns & flee the coast with your fellow Rush Limbaugh-loving comrades, you weren't ready to privatize healthcare & head to the ballots...
Even after they dragged your good name through the mud & gaslighted you till you couldn't tell the difference between science & reading tea leaves, you weren't ready to break out the MAGA cap. They'd broken your bleeding liberal heart, but they hadn't broken your woke spirit...
They said you'd changed, but you knew you were the same person with the same values. The world might be upside down, but you still knew your place, no matter how right-wing it was to say that kids were not filthy vectors of disease. So you tried reasoning with them...
You told them the kids weren't ok, they said kids are resilient. You told them WHO says no masks for 2 yr olds, they said their kids didn't complain. You told them schools in Europe were open, they said you wanted to kill teachers. You said test to stay, they said quarantine...
You said learning loss, they said banana bread. You said extreme mandates, they banned kids from chuck e cheese. You said safety theater, they said abundance of caution. You said small businesses were suffering, they said it's better to not eat a cheeseburger than to be dead...
You told them we were supposed to be the good guys, to care about civil liberties, education & children. You said you thought that's what you signed up for as a Dem. They said you were a covid denying conspiracy theorist and 800,000 people have died and it's a pandemic, stupid...
You said you abandoned our kids and stole their childhood. They said we're just getting started. You said you're moving to Florida and voting Republican no matter what, they said you were hysterical and turning your back on everything you once stood for to own the libs...
They pushed you into the arms of the enemy before the pajama class could say "we're all in this together." They took away everything, then said you were overreacting. They thought you'd get over it and forget. They were wrong.

🧵Bahrain. China. Hong Kong. Venezuela. Chile. Cuba. Argentina...USA. The only places in the WORLD jabbing kids under 5. NONE for under 2s, NONE with mRNAs (besides US). We deserve more than an Elmo PSA to explain to parents why almost no one else on our planet is on board...
I wouldn't care about how totally bizarre this is, if the jab campaign wasn't so aggressive. If our school hadn't just mandated it, with many sure to follow. If it wasn't another excuse to shame, divide, & coerce, to delay the return to normal our children so desperately need...
If Blue state elites weren't pretending that something with as much scientific consensus as the debate over whether the hamburger is really a sandwich is no different than the tried and true's the vast majority of us "antivaxxers" have given to our kids without hesitation...

🧵You must now do whatever it takes to protect me, according to our popular pandemic catchphrase: "You don't have a right to get me sick." Doesn't matter if you're not actually protecting me, or if YOU don't like it. It's all about the greater good & keeping ME healthy...
I can make you do whatever the hell I want & I don't give a hoot if you get harmed along the way. This is about protecting ME not YOU, remember? Anyway, are you honestly willing to risk MY life just cause your whiny kid doesn't like wearing his mask & muh freedom?...
What's wrong with your kid anyway? My kid loves his mask cause he doesn't want to kill his immunocompromised teacher. FFS it's just a mask. Your kid is "suffering?" Puh-lease. There's only one person suffering here & that's ME. I hardly ever have dinner parties anymore...

🧵The problem with censorship, even if this time you think it's the right kind, for a good reason, is that it's still censorship. The problem with segregation of the "other," even if this time you think it's the right other, & for a good reason, is that it's still segregation...
The problem with denying right to bodily autonomy, even if this time it's for their own good, is you're still denying bodily autonomy. The problem with violating the right to choose, even if this time it's for their own good, is you're still violating the right to choose...
The problem with trampling on civil rights, even if this time science says it's the only way, is that you're still trampling on civil rights. The problem with using fear to suspend freedom, even if this time the fear will make them comply, is you're still suspending freedom...

🧵I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Biden's speech didn't really track with our covid policies. Like, does a country with harsh mandates banning kids from society & forcing people to lose their jobs sound like a place where the "people rule" & their "will prevails?"...
Does it sound like a place never ruled by a "strongman," where the people have the "right to govern" themselves? And does preventing kids from getting an education allow them to "determine our own destiny?" Are we sure we're not "putting fear over hope" by masking 2 yr olds?...
Does divisive rhetoric about the dangers of the unvaccinated support the idea that "all people are created equal" or honor our "responsibility to see each other as neighbors"? Does censoring and suppressing dissenting voices sound like a place that doesn't "bury the truth"?...

🧵This article. I am so filled with rage and pain. I want to scream. And cry. We destroyed children's lives, took a wrecking ball to an entire generation, shattered childhoods without hesitation. And for what? To protect them? To keep them safe?...

nytimes.com/2022/01/04/bri…
The kids needed to be protected - but not from Covid, from ourselves - from our "experts," our leaders, our "science." We were always the far greater threat to them. We traded science and reason, compassion and common sense for ignorance, politics, fear, and misinformation...
We pretended the rest of the world didn't exist. We ignored our children's calls for help, ignored the pleas of desperate parents telling us their kids were not ok. We traded our kids' futures for cheap safety theater, small-minded, short-sighted politics, and fake science...

🧵 As a born and raised New Yorker, I've never even considered living anywhere else. Raising my kids here was the best gift and privilege I could give them. But last night, as I tucked my son into bed just after the ball dropped, I was overwhelmed by sadness and guilt...
Sadness for the years of childhood my son has lost & for my 2 year old who's never known normal. Sadness for what's become of the greatest city in the world. Sadness for my fellow New Yorkers, who used to smell bullshit from a mile away & who'd do anything to defend our city...
Guilt for allowing my city to become a toxic environment for children. For not fighting pointless, harmful, unscientific policies. For knowing we are the extreme, the fanatics, the exception, not the norm, but not moving almost anywhere else to give my kids a better life...
