In yesterday’s session with @_360Mentor, I referred to 10 tips on building a successful career from Justice Julia Sebutinde that I landed on in 2012 and found beneficial. Here is an abridged thread for you #360Mentor
1. Be visionary: Have a clear vision of what you want to do with your life. Every successful career begins with a personal decision of what you want to be and the goals you want to achieve. Without a vision, you will easily drift through life without happiness. #360Mentor
2. Be resourceful: Make the most of the opportunities that life gives you. Take time to gather all the skills, knowledge, and experience in any position. This often entails spending several years in the same line of work. Remember, a rolling stone never gathers moss! #360Mentor
3. Be daring: Life is about taking risks and having the courage to follow your dreams. Don’t be afraid to take risks. If you start your own business now , you will have a great firm to reckon with within five or so years. Think outside the box of being employed #360Mentor
4. Be tenacious: You need not be an intellectual genius to succeed in this life. You need to work hard and diligently pursue your dream with unwavering courage, fortitude, steadfastness, and tenacity. #360Mentor
5. Be ambitious: In everything, you do strive for excellence! If you want to leave your mark in life, you cannot afford to settle for mediocrity. Do not do something simply because “everybody does it” or “that’s the way everybody does it.” Think and act # differently 360Mentor
6. Be discerning: Focus on those things that matter most. Money is not everything. If you focus on money, it will surely choke and overtake your dream and vision. Think of other areas like job satisfaction, opportunities for growth, exposure, and experience. #360Mentor
7. Be resilient: In life, ugly things happen. You will meet situations where you suffer all kinds of challenges. Please don’t allow them to stand in our way. Face them head-on and choose to turn those millstones into stepping stones to success. #360Mentor
8. Be humble: It is impressive to see high achievers who remain humble. Humility means learning to keep your success in perspective. Remember, you are neither the first nor the last to reach where you are! #360Mentor
9. Self-Critique: You must learn periodically to audit your performance. Take stock of your achievements, failures, shortcomings etc., with a view of identifying areas of improvement. Use days like birthdays or new year to take stock of your life. #360Mentor
10. Worship: Honour God and honour your profession by serving your fellow man faithfully. You don’t succeed by your strength; there’s a higher power. When you honour God, He not only guides your choices, but He also blesses and rewards your efforts. #360Mentor
