It seems that the US stands up for the right of countries to choose their own security arrangements only when those arrangements benefit the US itself. If they run against American interests the US will do everything to derail them. 1/5
Angela Merkel thought North Stream 2 was good for German energy security. But the US wanted to sell its LNG so it went (and still goes) a long way to stop the project. 2/5
Turkey and India want to buy Russian weapon systems. But the US wants to boost its own arms sales so it threatens these countries with sanctions. 3/5
Brasil wanted to enhance its medical security with Russian vaccines. But the US wants to sell them their own products so they openly pressure them not to cooperate with Russia. 4/5
And these are just some very recent examples. Whatever you might think about the Russian demands on Ukraine not joining NATO, don't be fooled by hypocritical statements about sacred principles and rights. I wish politics was about morals, but it often isn't. 5/5
