Who amongst us hasn't interviewed for a job where there wasn't an insider candidate fast tracked for a particular position? Where our interview process was a complete sham.
I'm remembering a time when I interviewed at a Community College in Chicago. The entire thing was rigged and I'm fairly certain I was the diversity candidate. At the time, the field I was in was incredibly white. So an Indian-American like myself was a rare find.
Anyways, I flew to Chicago for the interview while working at another college. Did lots of prep. Printed my materials and got ready to teach.
Little did I know that another candidate who was an adjunct at the institution got a big insider tip. It's common place for teaching gigs to have to do a teaching demo. You can't account for how students will interact all things being equal, but this search wasn't equal.
The adjunct (preferred) candidate got told which class to pick which would have the most responsive students. The class I got was a non-responsive class. Now when you teach as I did with active learning strategies a responsive class can make a huge difference.
Welp, didn't get it and that went as well as it could. Didn't get the job.

This was no small ordeal, I spent hours prepping, traveling, to ultimately be undermined by a system that wanted an insider the whole time.
Point being, don't do this to people. It made me angry that I was used in this way. It also disappointed me that in a place like Chicago which is incredibly diverse that there could be such inequitable practices.
If they were willing to treat a candidate like that, imagine how they treated other faculty? Other students?
These systems can't fundamentally change unless there's complete buy-in and that's requires everyone thinking with an equity mindset.
Anyways, after that college turned me down I eventually ended up interviewing for a place here in Oregon and I accepted their offer. And I've been here ever since.
For some reason remembering a work colleague ask me after seeing my resume, "what are you doing here?"

Oh you know trying to make it as a BIPOC academic by having to have double the achievements and experience of my colleagues to even have a chance.

When people want to get elected they ask you for an endorsement. When they start doing stupid things they don't return messages when you try to hold them accountable because you feel a responsibility for who you endorse. It's the circle of life to losing an endorsement.
But it's also the circle of life to become an unaccountable person who believes criticism no longer matters upon election. If you get into a position and can't stand being pushed by the people who still care I just don't think you're cut out for leadership.
Anyways, I rarely endorse people now for this reason. I've seen and heard a lot of things that show me people are losing their humanity as leaders and it makes me sad. Frankly, I'm still clinging to my own.
