If we are at a peak stage where possibly 1 in 9 or 10 are infectious in Ontario*, this is the time to take our greatest precautions, for ourselves and those we care about. Stay Smart. Stay Safe.

(If you become infected but did your best to limit risks, don't feel bad. Omicron is highly transmissible.)
Re-upping this. There is no more important time than home isolation to protect household members from Omicron. Ideally the infected person is in a separate location but if that is impossible, this supplement to PH guidance may help. #covid19ontario
If $ is an issue, my advice is team up with some other households in your local area and have one (or two) ready to go to whoever needs it. Let neighbouring seniors know you have one.

Canada's #covid19 hospitalizations have more than quadrupled since December 27th, from 3,466 on December 27th, to 18,158 on January 14th. ICU cases grew from 948 to 2,120 over the same period, more than doubling.

Some will ask if these are in hospital "for covid" or in hospital "with covid". The numbers in Ontario are roughly 50/50 though some of this is subjective and varies by hospital. The problem is that even "with" covid may develop worse recoveries and require addnl staff efforts.
If you look at the chart and only look at "for" covid, it is by itself at the level of previous peaks, peaks where many more hospital staff were available and not isolating. It would be incorrect to assume "with" covid means no additional repercussions for patients.

Encouraging all followers to simply reply with this diagram when someone tweets the misleading vaccination - hospital pie charts put out by Ontario.

This is not my diagram. I wish it was. But I endorse it 💯.
What I do produce is a bar chart which takes the raw ICU counts in the lower pie chart and divides them by the population in each vaccine category (upper pie chart). Then I show the risk per million people in the bars. Image

One of the top pediatricians telling you that the risks for children are much higher if they are not vaccinated. Since he said this, the US data on millions of 5-11 vaccinations overwhelmingly supports their safety while Ontario covid risks have climbed 50-70 times higher.
I listened in to FDA advisory hearings on the 5-11 vaccine when it was first reviewed. The support from independent experts was overwhelming. The FDA approved, the CDC approved, countries around the world approved. You have no reason to leave your child unprotected any longer.
This is the year-end report from the CDC after almost NINE MILLION DOSES.
"Serious adverse events were rarely reported."

If I told you that infections in the community may be 50-70 times higher than they were in late November, would that affect your opinion on the ability of schools to be safe? The studies and evidence Dr.Moore and Science Table cite are pre-Omicron, pre- hyper infection rates.
If I told you the Science Table acknowledges that short and long term health risks for children are an issue but only considers that they be monitored after or during a historic infection event, would that sound like a balanced, proactive, or precautionary stance?
If I told you that the ST evidence saying school closures impacts are small was based on times when community transmission was dramatically lower, would that persuade you that the impacts are small now under Omicron?

🧵Opinion: Is there something to recent signals? Possibly, especially the harder evidence with new ICU admits which lag infections. They have clearly fallen off the consistent exponential growth trend over recent days. More ⤵️

ICU admissions could be prone to in-hospital policies and pressures. We will see how other hospital indicators track over coming days and weeks.
Test positivity reflects the targeted (biased) populations allowed to have PCR tests but it could be that they too are reflecting a more general slowdown in Omicron. If the number of infections in the community is larger, it would be expected to affect the select popns being ...
