What we watched with the Senate and Supreme Court yesterday is part of a larger problem. These institutions were created intentionally to curb progress and reform so that the powerful could maintain control

Our system has been coopted by billionaires, corporations, and special interests who have systematically dismantled anything resembling representative government.
As everything falls apart, we’re left to wonder why while conspiracy theories obscure the truth and radicalize.

The truth is that neoliberalism and wanton greed has created a system where the government refuses to help or represent us. It’s largely a symbolic body that can only pass tax cuts, sell off public resources, and make sure the economy works for the rich and powerful.
Politicians and pundits charged with explaining this crisis and rectifying it can’t even begin because they benefit from it.
Their positions, their wealth, and their power is based on this very system. So when they shrug and say they’re powerless, it’s an act.

Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema aren’t aberrations or outliers. They represent the prevailing ideology of our government, it just happens their grandstanding rewards them with attention and donations from the wealthy who love how they impede reform.
While our government and culture pretend everything is inexplicable and that they’re powerless, our crisis grows. Radicalization increases and authoritarianism builds by offering promises of control.
And meanwhile, the market loves and rewards authoritarianism.

What is happening is so obvious to anyone who isn’t benefiting or actively profiting from the growing crisis. This neoliberal hypercapitalism is driving us over a cliff while an elite few grow richer and more powerful. It’s time to stop acting like this isn’t happening.
