Post-game thoughts (1/13/22):
-Entering the home stretch! Two more games and I'd get to go home to Genevieve. And if I won them both, I'd have my picture up in the Jeopardy hall of fame! So there was a lot at stake, and no time to feel tired!
Before every game, Ken comes out and chats with the contestants a bit, trying to help them relax. He'd started telling a story about, near the end of his streak, contestants would arrive for taping, see he was still there, and get very disappointed and intimidated
But, he said, the person who eventually beat him was the one who was super friendly, and wanted to hang out with him. Then, with perfect deadpan timing, Clark turned to me and said "I want to hang out with you, Amy." It was maybe the funniest line anybody said during my whole run
Soon after Genevieve and I met, she found out that I'd never seen Dirty Dancing, and forced me to watch it immediately. It's a good movie!
I still don't understand why I would want somebody to call me by their name. It seems confusing!
I saw Queen and Slim but just blanked on Daniel Kaluuya's name. I found it a bit disappointing, tbh, it had a lot of tension at the beginning that just kind of faded out as the movie went on
Another thing you can make in a dutch oven: Cauliflower Adobo. I made it last night for some dinner guests, it's a very satisfying vegetarian meal, and fairly easy
At the break it was a pretty tight game, Clark and Cory were both getting their fair share of answers in
32 games in, I was really struggling to find anecdotes at this point lol. I heard that Ken eventually started making stuff up during his run, I was starting to wonder if it was time to do the same!
My usual success in the wordplay category had stretched my lead a bit when I found the Daily Double, but I still only felt comfortable betting $2000. But I got coexist, and then minoxidil to run the category
We all struggled a bit in literary decades, and at the end of the first round I had a pretty solid lead
I can't *believe* I said Smells Like Teen Spirit instead of Nevermind. So embarrassing
Cory started to find his timing a bit and cut into my lead. I moved over to the Mountains category where I thought I could do well. Somehow none of us got the Canadian Rockies, which gave me the Daily Double!
I went with the mildly aggressive $4000 bet. Thankfully, my 500+ day streak in Spanish on Duolingo came in clutch, and I was able to stretch my lead a bit, but a lot still depended on that last Daily Double
One of our guests last night was a Buddhist, so she was pleased to get an answer that I missed. But I got the rest in that category, which gave me that last Daily Double! I bet defensively this time, just $2000, and when I got it I knew I was in good shape
I have a few succulents; I got them when I was in quarantine and once I started having a social life again my interest in them dropped off dramatically, but they're managing to survive my neglect so far
I never knew that Tate Galleries was plural
Cory pushed it at the end, but because I got both Daily Doubles there wasn't much he could do to prevent my runaway. Clark unfortunately just completely lost her buzzer timing in Double Jeopardy, only managing to ring in one time, after Cory and I had both missed
But for the first time this week, I couldn't afford a 5-figure bet, so of course I got the answer immediately. The key was the word "object," Clark and Cory went with an abstract concept, but a French object associated with "law" and "vengeance" got me to guillotine pretty quick
And there it was, I was in a tie for third place! One more game, if I won I could go home knowing I'd achieved my goal of beating James, and that I'd get to come back the next week!
Which I really wanted to do, one thing that may or may not be coming across is just how much fun I was having during all this! The winning is nice, sure, but it was also just a rewarding experience to be so focused on one particular thing.
And everyone was great to hang out with; I already told that story about Clark, and I think you could see on screen that Cory was fun. This was actually a really good group this week, even by the generally high standards of Jeopardy contestants.
But would I get to meet another group of contestants? Time to find out!

Post-game thoughts (1/17/22):
I forget if I mentioned, but one fear I had during the last two taping days was whether or not I would actually be able to see Genevieve during the downtime, given her Covid diagnosis.
However, the Covid captain for Jeopardy said that wouldn't be necessary, since she was asymptomatic and I was vaccinated, which was a huge relief, I don't know if I could have handled a full week without seeing her!
However, it did mean that, the next Monday, I once again had to come in early for an extra Covid test, which was annoying, but with the schedule I'd worked out the previous Tuesday it wasn't a huge disruption

One more game to claim third place all time! I started with the music category as usual, and kept going back to it until it was out of the way
One of my favorite books is a biography of William the Silent, by C.V. Wedgwood. A really fascinating guy, he was one of the first in European history to really start to break down the relationship between church and state
I don't feel like I did a great job talking about James Holzhauer, that's one moment where I could see how tired I was

Post-game thoughts (12/28):
First, one thing I meant to mention in the previous recap: Seychelles may not have been the correct answer yesterday, but their flag is *lit*, definitely one of my top five favorite flags 🇸🇨
As I think I've mentioned, I'd been reviewing the all-time leaders, and so I knew that Julia Collins had won 20 games, which was the longest streak for a woman (and fourth all time). I loved watching Julia, I felt like we had similar approaches, so I wanted to pay tribute to her
Julia, somewhat famously, wore a lot of sweaters during her run, so that was what I chose. I debated whether to wear it for this game, or save it for the next one, but since I couldn't be sure there would even *be* a next one, I put it on. But would I actually tie her record?

Post-game thoughts:
Getting out of bed was rough Tuesday morning, but I knew that at the end of the day, win or lose, I'd be flying home to Genevieve, which definitely helped me get through the day.
But of course, I wanted it to be "win!" I still had $300K to go on the quest for a million, and I knew I'd have to win all five today to have a chance to achieve it the next week!
I forgot to mention, but I had packed two dresses this week; I almost exclusively wear dresses in my day-to-day life, but for Jeopardy, I could only wear them if they had a belt, so that there would be a place to attach the microphone pack.
