FIRST on this week's #FridayNightZillow thread:
A 14.5K-sf Michigan lakefront estate with the Library of the Gods, featuring a painted ceiling intended to look like the Sistine Chapel. $4.75M.
I hope it puts a smile on your face after a long week! 🧵 zillow.com/homedetails/15…
This is the ceiling of the library. Painted by Andre Sikora. The mansion in Grosse Point Park was built by Hal Smith in 1929. #FridayNightZillow
This insane library is 1,000 square feet. Doubles as an office, a salon, a billiards room. I'd spend all my time here. #FridayNightZillow
Per a Daily Mail story from 2020 — Yes, it's been on the market a while! — the library was made with select-grade walnut — no knots (nuts). The owner walled off the library from the rest of the house to protect his book collection. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8…#FridayNightZillow
This view is worth a million. The library is priceless. The rest of the house: I guess you need a place to sleep, right? #FridayNightZillow
This room is a little overwrought to me. I'm just a simple suburban boy who grew up in a Levitt house. Kind of reminds me of parts of the Vatican, which I guess was the plan. #FridayNightZillow
Next up on #FridayNightZillow: Your own 10-acre *PRIVATE ISLAND* in Canada. $12.1 million Canadian. Includes your "own power source, heat, food and water as well as transportation" including options for a helicopter. And a "Lobster Temple." Enjoy! zillow.com/homedetails/12…
This bedroom is nice. I hope those windows are well-insulated though because, you know, Canada! #FridayNightZillow
I think this what they call the "Lobster Temple." I would, uh, take down that fake lobster and rename it. #FridayNightZillow
When one giant Wolf range won't do, you go with TWO giant Wolf ranges. #FridayNightZillow
I approve of the clawfoot tub. Just say no to stupid too-high TVs in the bathroom. #FridayNightZillow
Yes, please to this view. Per the listing, which is must be hoping to capitalize on COVID: "Anyone looking for beautiful seclusion can isolate for over a year without leaving the island!" #FridayNightZillow
This is a sink (TM). I now need a hot poker for my eyes. Making sure you are awake! This giant megamansion in Golden, Colorado is $13.5M and, well, I basically just wanted to show you the sink. #SinkZillow#FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/13…
Up next: @jonlandau, the insanely successful producer of Avatar, Titanic, etc. is selling his awesome mansion in the Florida Keys. A bunch of you have sent me this, so here it is: Enjoy! $13.999M. zillow.com/homedetails/89…
New York Sorority House. ***$399K*** buys you 12BRs and, uh, *2* baths (?!?). Beautiful exterior. Theta Phi Alpha presently occupies it. On Elm Street in Potsdam. zillow.com/homedetails/30…?
Four sinks. Show me another actual house with a 4-sink bathroom under $400K. I don't think you can. #SinkZillow#FridayNightZillow.
Bargain alert: 5BRs, 4BA & nearly 7K square feet for, checks notes, $199K! Affordable housing exists. This one has a Methodist vibe, a surprisingly nice bathtub and one of those showers that scares me. Indiana on #FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/40…
How about cheaper? Sure, you want cheaper. I want cheaper. Everybody wants cheaper. How about $89.9K for this Western Maryland home? Has history and the price is right. 3BR, 2BA, 2750 sf, porch. #FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/12…
Sorry but this <$50K storefront/apartment in Kansas already sold. I think you could sell this to someone in DC just to use as storage? Perils of waiting for Friday. #FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/21…
This one made me laugh. A guy is in the middle of building a "Tiny Mansion" and will deliver it to you apparently when it's done. $250K. Doesn't come with land? Colorado on #FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/12…
<$1 million goes a long way in Indianapolis. Listing says it is close to "Lucas Oil Stadium." 8BR, 8BA, 8K square feet. This Victorian is pretty AND cool. Kitchen has a pizza oven. Includes multiple units, which you can VRBO. #FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/64…
What if I told you that for just $795K, you could get a giant, quirky megamansion with indoor pool, colossal master bedroom, party room, 8-car garage, koi pond, the works? GEORGIA on your mind? Macon is on #FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/57…
This master bedroom is just colossal. Nobody needs a room this big. What are you doing, bringing over a whole yoga class? Note bed on a raised platform for some reason. #FridayNightZillow.
Just making sure you're awake. The Master Bathroom will test your retina circuit breakers. Just wow. #FridayNightZillow
Posting this mansion mainly because it has this blue train with a weird outbuilding, and a room big enough for a Moose Lodge meeting. Michigan. I don't get it. #FridayNightZIllowzillow.com/homedetails/72…
This one's a beauty and cheap for a mansion. $749K buys you an 8BR, 5BA, 7,300 sf historic mansion that's been tastefully updated in Maine. I love it! #FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/10…?
History: "Notable owners include Hannibal Hamlin II, the grandson of Hannibal Hamlin, President Lincoln's Vice President." It also has a pool. I hope it's heated because Maine. #FridayNightZillow
Ever thought you couldn't possibly afford to buy a hotel? Well, here's your chance. $425K! "Sulphur Lick Hotel."
8BR, 5BA, 8544 sf. Chillicothe, Ohio on #FridayNightZillow
I have no idea why they call it "Sulphur Lick" and I kind of don't want to know. But there's back story if you click through the link. The place looks like a lot of fun for kids, including a climbing maze and some themed rooms. #FridayNightZillowzillow.com/homedetails/21…
Bonus: There's an awesome model train room. Did I mention this house only costs $425K? #FridayNightZillow
Ending tonight with one last insane megamansion with a mini price. It has me totally rethinking what's possible.
$825K for nearly 18K square feet, folks! 7BR/11BA.
Open connect shower/tub combo. Seeing more of this sort of thing lately. Not sure if I'm down with it, but it's nice. #FridayNightZillow
If there's anything that gives me pause it's that it's been on the market for more than a year and there just aren't many pictures. I think this is what they are calling the cave? #FridayNightZillow
Thanks for tuning in to another edition of #FridayNightZillow. As always, it's a family thing over here at the Dennis household. Most of these houses were found by my wife and my sister-in-law this week.
Until next time...
SATURDAY UPDATE: Realtor dot com has a lot more pics of the $825K Indiana megamansion. We really all need to pony up $20K each and get a week for life here. FNZ Timeshares Inc.? #FridayNightZillowrealtor.com/realestateandh…
Two years ago, Congress considered banning 18-20 year-olds from buying AR-15s and other semi-automatic rifles after the Uvalde massacre, and some Republicans were briefly open to doing so but ultimately blocked including a ban in the bipartisan gun bill signed by Biden.
Then-Florida Governor Rick Scott signed a law raising the age to buy guns in his state to 21 after the Parkland massacre, but then opposed doing the same for the nation as a US Senator. He told reporters it was easier to do it at the state level.
McConnell actually enacted a law one day to raise the age to buy cigarettes to 21. But he didn't want to talk two years ago about a proposal to raise the age for buying rifles.
Soaring cost estimates for extending Trump tax cuts set up a crucial 2025 fight:
*CBO puts tab at $4.6 Trillion over next decade
*Fight comes with US debt far higher than 2017, interest costs ballooning & Social Security cliff looming...
w/@chrisjcondon bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
*Trump wants more tax cuts, along with massive new tariffs — aka a tax on imports — that would raise consumer prices but offset at least some of the cost.
*Biden wants to extend breaks <$400K a year paired with higher taxes on corporations and the wealthy.
If past is prologue, Congress will again play Santa Claus. With a few exceptions, Congress has repeatedly increased spending and cut taxes since 2001.
Tonight's #FridayNightZillow is kicking off with a *House of the Year* contender. It's amazeballs! We just need to crowdfund $2.795M. We get 9,825 square feet of sheer madness on 36 acres in gorgeous Plymouth, Minnesota! I love it!!! INSANE sinks, WEIRD art, WILD ceilings, AMAZING kitchen, views, colors galore, a pond, a party shower and much, MUCH more. Several of you sent me this gem! 🧵 zillow.com/homedetails/51…

"What happens in jail stays in jail" lol. Jail-bar pillows are a nice touch. #FridayNightZillow
One of the scarier things I've seen on Zillow. Let's hope this is a prop and not an actual electric chair. #FridayNightZillow
Ozempic can be produced for less than $5 a month, a new study found, but Danish company Novo Nordisk charges Americans $968.52. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Bernie Sanders insisting the company charge Americans no more than it charges Canadians for the same drug.
Ozempic pricing page. Many people get discounts on this price, or have insurance companies (ie premiums) or taxpayers pay the bill. novopricing.com/ozempic.html
McConnell helped nix:
Roe
Campaign finance reform
Individual mandate
Medicare dental & vision
Dream Act
$35 insulin cap
Minimum wage hike
Flag burning amendment
Making Election Day a holiday
Public option
SCOTUS filibuster
Pro Act 1/6 Commission
Oil export ban
Cap&trade
Tax hikes
Vast majority of laws since 2007 have had either the acquiescence of McConnell or his outright support, with notable exceptions, like the Affordable Care Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, Obama stimulus, Biden Covid relief, Dodd-Frank, Lilly Ledbetter, USA Freedom Act, Paygo.
One way to look at McConnell is that he has often had the role of editor of Congress. Empowered by the filibuster and his conference, he had a key veto point in Washington; spending, taxing and legislating had to pass through his filter.
