Lately, I've felt like a failure. A sadness that is cool, like this winter night. Comparing myself to others I respect & admire in their ability to be of benefit to this world in urgent need—halfway through my life & have I made a helpful dent? Defeat may look like success. 1/6
Elephant is still reaching many millions a year, alone among too few indie (as opposed to Big Tech $$$ backed) communities left standing after Facebook algorithm & its purchase of Instagram blackholed blogs (remember them?) & bloggers & readers. 2/6
With a staff of 30+, we'll have to slim down to protect our crew & mission by the end of this month unless you all rise up & subscribe & RT. We'll have to lay off 2-4 folks, & yes, I'm cutting my salary yet again & severely, as I should, as the founder. 3/6
I frankly don't expect a community-inspired, you-helped miracle, & I shouldn't. But this internetted world still has space for miracles. We would need hundreds to subscribe, not just a few. So if you've ever appreciated Elephant, an article, a writer, a read—RT. 4/6
And if you subscribe, here, elephantjournal.com/subscribe <<< thank you, on behalf not of myself or even the staff's jobs you're saving, but of our mission, to be of benefit, to remind all of us to give a care, & show the way forward through personal stories & community. 5/6
Please comment if you subscribe. Please comment if you RT. Pls help that algorithm to open up. This is a Hail Mary for Elephant, to appeal to the strength of community. We need you to show up for us, now, if we've ever showed up for you. May it be of benefit! ~ @waylonlewis 6/6
@waylonlewis PS: if you Quote RT why you subscribe to Elephant, or comment saying you've newly subscribed, I will RT you.

"Every time someone steps up and says who they are, the world becomes a better, more interesting place." ~ Captain Raymond Holt
Two important notes, via Reddit: "The message has the right intention but there are definitely many people who have regretted it... [cont'd]
Coming out in an unsafe situation can lead to personal danger. It can also cause exile, loss of inheritance/financial support, losing friends/family, losing your job, eviction, mental distress etc. Not to mention that being out in certain countries can lead to imprisonment or
execution.
This is coming from a queer person - only come out if you’re safe and know that you’re willing to lose anything you might lose. If you’re free to come out without sacrificing anything, you’re in a very privileged position."
