The potassium nitrate (chemical formula KNO3, commonly known as saltpeter) originally used in the flares was gathered* and exported from shores in along the Bay of Bengal 💁🏽‍♀️
*guess who (govt and later company) engaged in this “export business”?
Between community/regional/family lore and cobbling together some historical facts, I *think* the movement of saltpeter from the region to places around the world was pivotal in the formation of the EIC and its headquarter influence in Calcutta — not the only item, one of many.
And of course all of this became unnecessary once the Haber(-Bosch) process was discovered and yield-optimized — consequential for WWI

OK, file under better pandemic than never and with a system that makes sense to perhaps only me:

I will embrace Bollywood and start with the classics of the Golden Age of, based on the songs I recognize
First up: the inspiration comes from hearing @khanvictlife’s mashup of Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko, an Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi classics 💁🏽‍♀️
…and here’s the original song + movie excerpt (and lyrics translation for my non-Hindi proficient friends)
