Monks take decades of dedicated practice to achieve Bliss Brain.

What if you could achieve it in a single week?

- Thread -
Thanks to modern science, I am going to share how you can remodel your brain for resilience, creativity, and joy much faster.

In fact, it will only take a single week, spending 12 minutes per day.
Are you happy right now?

With proper meditation practices, you can have seven times as much:

- gratitude
- happiness
- compassion

You can be 7x happier than the happiest you've been.
Historically, to achieve true inner peace, or oneness with the non-local mind, one would attend a monastery.

They would study, in a disciplined manner, for decades to possibly achieve bliss.
First, buy yourself a journal.

Hold the journals in your hand, until one resonates with you. Buy it.

I want you to journal about:

- Gratitude
- Disasters that did not happen
- Near misses that might have occurred
Robert Kegan, a Harvard Psychologist, identified the single most important accelerator of human transformation as,

the ability to shift from being subjectively emeshed in who you are to being an objective observer of who you are.

This is often referred to as perspective taking.
If you can shift from the subjective self, to the object I've self, you have the ability to make rapid transformational shifts.

A journal helps you take perspective.

It helps you observe yourself objectively.
Being objective, through our journaling practice, brings us to altered states.

It is in altered states where all great ideas come from, according to Napoleon Hill and Albert Einstein: art, dance, science, literature, and more.

Seek to put yourself in these altered states.
Our default mode network is always in protection mode.

It seeks to save us from tigers, snakes, etc. that would have killed us historically.

This hyper vigilance seeks to save us from what Sally said or our mean colleague told us.

We need to turn it off.
We learn to dial down our default mode network. To turn it off.

To do this, we focus on the present moment, through journaling, thought auding, and meditation.

Our goal, through these exercises, is to be present. Here, in this moment, right now.
Meditation is not about absence of thought.

In meditation, we cycle through four phases:

1. We achieve a state bliss
2. Our mind begins to wander
3. We notice our mind wandering
4. We bring our mind back to focus

We cycle through this process, over and over.
The key is not achieving a state of bliss, union with our non-local mind, it is how quickly, and how often, we can bring our mind back to focus.

To learn to identify when our mind is wandering, and bring it back to our anchor. Bring it back to focus.
When we are active, our default mode network (monkey mind), is quiet.

When we are "at rest," our money mind becomes active, which is why it is when we are resting we are often the least happy in life.

By learning to control our monkey mind, we increase happiness.
Isolation equals amplification.

Isolation is associated with adverse gene changes, including a shorter life span.

The WHO estimates that 30% of people are now suffering from anxiety and depression.

We cannot estimate how serious an impact this will have on long-term health.
When you connect with something larger than yourself, you mitigate the downsides of isolation.

You realize you are not alone.

You are in touch with the Universe.

You have experience of oneness with nature.

You begin to be in touch with the big cycles of life.
Nuns, monks, meditation adepts, share common traits with artists, and professionals who are in flow state.

These people share the same brain waves when hooked up to EEG machines and MRIs.

Regardless of religion, or spiritual practice, the brain state achieved is consistent.
To achieve bliss brain, we will learn to combine multiple "best practices" together into a single practice, including:

- tapping
- mindfulness
- heart coherence
- vagal nerve reduction
- alpha brainwave induction

This is referred to as eco-meditation.
When you're done the meditation, ground yourself.

Bring yourself back to the present moment.

Notice the room around you.

The sounds. The colors.
To achieve altered states we attain through meditation, people take:

- DMT
- MDMA
- Psilocybin
- Ayahuasca

The challenge is drugs are a gateway to the top of the mountain.

The drugsdo not provide a path up the mountain.

Meditation provides the path, and the peak.
To experience the meditation that will bring you to Bliss Brain, join me and @dawsonchurch on the Pursuit of Learning Podcast (thepursuitoflearning.com).

At the 50 minute mark, Dawon brings us through his eco-meditation, which is powerful.

Without knowing someone's origin story, you cannot fully understand them.

You need their history, path, wins, and losses.

It is how they have become the person they are today.

This is my origin story. My trials. My tribulations and the lessons I've learned.
When I was four, we moved cross-country to Quebec to take care of my sick nana.

We were lower-middle class. We lived in one of the units of a four-plex my nana owned, not being able to afford to own a home ourselves.

Being an English-speaking child in Quebec was a challenge.

1. What is not changing

Life changes.

Business changes.

The change comes faster and faster.

We need to remind ourselves, and those who work with us, of what is not changing.

Ceretainty reduces fear. Certainty amidst change maintains a level of calm.
2. Skill evolution

When you start your career, you will be focused on technical skills.

If promoted to manager for being technically strong, you will need to learn emotional intelligence.

If promoted to an executive position, you will need to address your blind spots.

In five years, if you tell me the conversation I had with Joe Pulizzi, which informs this thread was the most important conversation I have ever had, Iwould not be surprised.

This conversation was life changing.

Before you go on, please retweet the original tweet. Let's roll.
1. Believe in yourself

Joe talked about starting a business with his wife for years.

Finally, she told him "Look Joe, either stop talking about it or do it just fine. I'm fine with it. But you have to pick, you can't just talk about this forever."

He took a leap of faith.
