McCormick mentions a researcher. Cadwalladr says she obtained them indirectly. The emails were given to Isabel Oakeshott.

McCormick says more than 10,000 emails were exchanged between Oakeshott and the Banks and Wigmore. She says she doesn’t know about the arrange Oakeshott had. Oakeshott told Cadwalladr she ‘wished to put this information into the public domains”

Cadwalladr says Oakeshott she wanted to disclose these emails but wanted to protect the identities of Richard Tice, Lord Ashcroft and Andy Wigmore

Cadwalladr says Isabel Oakeshott told her the material was important and in the public interest. Chris Wylie told Cadwalladr the email cache was very important and he had been in touch with Congressional investigations and the NCA over them

The researcher is in Banks disclosed documents but not in Cadawalladr where he is referred to like this

There were no more than a few dozen of the large cache of 10,000 emails. “I have been given the transcribed texts of the emails,” Cadwalladr explains

Cadwalladr says she didn’t know if the comments on the copied and pasted emails were from the researcher or Isabel Oakeshott

Cadwalladr explains that the Observer carried out authentication checks on the material and were confident they came from Mr Banks’ emails by the time they published on Saturday Night. Cadwalladr had a long conversation with the researcher and Isabel Oakeshott.

On verifying the emails, Cadwalladr explains: “I spoke to two people who had been given the emails… to be clear Ms Oakeshott did not want to confirm. She was very antagonistic. By the end of our fraught conversation there was no doubt in my mind the emails were genuine”

“We’d passed the contents of a stash of emails which had since been confirmed as genuine,” Cadwalladr explains to the court.

“I took as the statement of truth on it, the statement he made when the Electoral Commission was started” Cadwalladr says of Banks “one boozy lunch”

Cadwalladr says she didn’t notice any legal privileged material in the emails. She was focused on the gold and diamond mine deals.
