Ronaldinho? Maradona? For many, the greatest dribbler of all time is Garrincha.

The entertainer who first brought olés from the bull-fighting arena into the stadium, Garrincha mesmerised supporters and left opponents in his wake. [THREAD]
Garrincha's left leg was 6cm longer than his right. His spine was deformed. He was, however, absolutely electric from day one. Before he turned pro, a scout remarked: "There's an unknown player who lives in the woods, has bent legs, is unmarkable and dribbles like the devil".
Of his 345 club games, 323 of them were for Botafogo. This was despite widespread international acclaim and near-constant interest in his services from Europe. Garrincha opted to stay loyal to his home crowd, and in turn they adored him.
Garrincha and Pelé are chiefly responsible for what's often called "the best three minutes of football of all time" vs the Soviet Union in the 1958 World QFs. Garrincha also repeatedly bamboozled Sweden in the final - his two assists helped turn a 1-0 deficit into a 5-2 win.
But it's the 1962 World Cup where Garrincha's golden legacy was sealed in style. With Pelé out injured, Garrincha stepped up, dazzling each and every fan who was lucky enough to see him. He won the Golden Ball, the Golden Boot, and of course the tournament itself.
Brazil never lost a game with Garrincha and Pelé in the same side. When they played together, fans would not only cheer and olé, they would laugh with glee. They'd simply never seen anything like it.
Ultimately, Garrincha's ludicrous talent and mind-blowing performances are not reflected in his reputation now. The greatest dribbler, one of the greatest ever in general. We should remember that.

A true icon who died 39 years ago today. Respect. ✊

Lazio's new signing is not just a promising young defender.

Danish centreback Oliver Provstgaard is also a prolific EAFC player.

The 2021 eChampions League champion's move to Italy is one of the most interesting transfers of the window.

It wasn't supposed to end like this for James Rodríguez.

This is the man who starred in his own blockbuster movie. The 2014 World Cup was his Hero Origin Story. Lights, Camera, Action. ⁣

6 goals. Including that one against Uruguay.⁣ The first Colombian to win the Golden Boot carried his country on his back with pride.
Forget the fact that somehow he didn’t win the Golden Ball, for a moment there he was the best player in the world.

"Don’t play with him. On my mother’s life, he is playing against us”

Three years is a long time in football, and Vini Jr is no longer the butt of Karim Benzema's joke.

He's a full-fledged star and maybe, the best left winger in the world.

THREAD 👇 ImageImage
From 8 goals in his first 82 La Liga games to 17 in 35 last season. Vini Jr has arrived. And it’s not just about the goals, there’s a deeper connection there too.
When Real Madrid fans returned to the Bernabeu after 560 days, it was Vini who leapt into the crowd to embrace them. Once that kind of bond is formed it’s tough to break.

🇦🇷👟 Carlos Ruiz's store in Buenos Aires is an adidas-filled time capsule

A robbery in the 70s forced him to close the store for 2 years. Upon his return, he realized that he needed to reapply to sell new products

His aversion to paperwork has created a treasure trove
(thread)
Since then, Carlos has presided over a store filled to the brim with prime, deadstock, vintage Adidas.

His treasure trove has been the mecca for many a sneaker-head pilgrimage including Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, and the legendary Spezial, Gary Aspden.
But Carlos inviting people to visit the store and letting them buy his stock are two completely different things.

In a country where Maradona is God, sporting heritage can never be truly bought or sold. Only stewarded for the next generation.

Mesut Özil. The OG assist king. A pioneer who forever changed the assist numbers game. A player who achieved so much yet it feels like he should have achieved more. One of the most intelligent players we’ve ever seen. [THREAD]
A graduate of Schalke's academy, he debuted in Gelsenkirchen but shortly moved to Bremen. In two full seasons at Werder he recorded a staggering 52 assists and 15 goals. UEFA Cup runner-up and DFB Pokal winner. Scored the only goal in the final.

The 2010 WC saw Özil really announce himself to everyone. Started all of Germany’s games and helped to a SF finish becoming competition’s joint-top assister. His pace in the younger days was underrated. Trademark disguised pass nutmegging Ashley Cole.
