Farewell to the East!!!

The fifth person I know closely fled the South East last night. "Never to return again," he said. House now for sale. Lost child due to unavailability of medical care during sit-at-home, lost a younger sister last year due to same problem; lost younger...
brother in one conflict in Orlu; elder brother lost car to enforcers in Onitsha just before the gubernatorial elections.
Where has he relocated to? Lokoja. "I cannot afford Abuja," he yelled. What about your name? Won't you suffer pogrom soon? He shot back: "to hell with that...I'll change it."
Please, can these enforcers understand that there are things called "rules of engagement in international and national conflicts." Health institutions, the sick, children, women, the aged, civil environments, etc, are exempted in conflicts.
Otherwise, I'm constrained to believe that every armed robber is now a freedom fighter in Igbo land. Although I am aware that estranged coordinators are now on the loose and are not yielding a quarter.
Governments and security do not care. Trouble looms.

Bezos loses $20 billion in brutal week for tech billionaires

Jeff Bezos shed $20 billion from his fortune. Changpeng Zhao of Binance dropped $17.7 billion, while Mark Zuckerberg’s wealth fell $10.4 billion.
Elon Musk, the world’s richest person, saw his net worth drop by $25.1 billion or more than 9% this week.
Markets fell by the most since the outbreak of the pandemic as the specter of interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve settled over the economy.
Of the world’s 10 wealthiest people, only one avoided losing money this week: French luxury fashion mogul Bernard Arnault, who’s on the cusp of re-taking the no. 2 spot in the Bloomberg index from Bezos.

Cryptocurrency's fall has erased more than $1 trillion in market value

As the U.S. Federal Reserve intends to stop stimulating the market, risky assets around the world have suffered.
Bitcoin, the largest digital asset, lost as much as 8.7% on Friday and fell below $38,000, reaching its lowest level in six months. It has lost 40% of its value since its peak in November. Other digital currencies have suffered just as much.
Bitcoin's fall from its November high wiped out more than $570 billion in market value, and the aggregate cryptocurrency market lost about $1.17 trillion. While both bitcoin and the aggregate market saw much larger percentage drawdowns, this is the second largest drop in dollar..

I still maintain that these sit-at-home situations in the SE is unwise, anachronistic and foolhardy. I don't see what it is supposed to achieve. Some folks tell me it's supposed to push Igbo politicians to prevail on President Buhari to release Nnamdi Kanu.
Others say it is to draw the attention of the UN to the plight of Igbos in Nigeria. Yet others say it is to adversely affect the economy, and indirectly pressure the government to release Nnamdi Kanu.
Unfortunately all 3 propositions make no practical sense and are unrealisable.
I make bold to say that no Igbo politician in today's Nigeria, has the latitude to make Buhari change his course of action on MNK. It's no secret that none is close enough to him, and it will take more than mere political friendship for him to soften his stance against the IPOB.

"Democracy, good governance and modernity cannot be imported or imposed from outside the country."

Last November, Anambra voters elected a vibrant and young academic (1984 grad of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka) to replace outgoing banker, Willie Obiano, at...
the Government House, Awka. In a bid to hit the ground running, the governor-elect, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has impanelled a mega transition committee with hot-headed Oby Ezekwesili, another UNN graduate (1984), leading.
Our discourse this week is a spinoff from controversies generated by Soludo's first appointments as a politician.
Anambra State has had its fair share of good/bad governance from the beginning. It is also blessed to have had men [and women too] of letters at the helm of affairs.
