Let's talk about the evidence we have that shows that trans people are who they say they are. Because "are trans women really women?" can be a philosophical, essentialist, endless question, let's instead focus on what we know from science. A thread. 🧵
Let's start with a quick recap of some facts. In 2019, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians and 14 additional medical, mental health and health care organizations wrote as impartial advisors in support of transgender employees to the Supreme Court.
These 16 leading medical, mental health, nursing and other health care organizations represent 100s of 1000's of physicians & mental health professionals, incl. specialists in family medicine, mental health treatment, internal medicine, and endocrinology; and millions of nurses. 
These are representatives from the most authoritative organizations in the United States with regards to the consensus among health care professionals regarding transgender care and health and well-being. They agree that transgender men are men, and transgender women are women.
These statement are backed by the cited assertions that they make about transgender people based on the best and most current scientific knowledge. n.b. There is no citation for "a trans women is a woman", because social group identity is not a verifiable claim in their purview.
Again- remember- we are not talking about whether trans people meet some absolute definition and whether that definition is correct. We know that gender identity may not align with sex assigned at birth, and that it is non-binary. In other words, "trans is real".
We also know that transgender people have always existed. This is not a new fad or a cultural craze.

Let's take a break from the dry stuff. Here's a video from @mamadoctorjones (Board Certified ObGyn - Danielle Jones, MD, FACOG) explaining how science is not anti-trans, how inclusivity isn't erasing women, and how it works in the real world.
Trans people exist, in the way they say they do. They are people just like anyone else, and deserve the same rights and respect as everyone else. Sadly, misinformation and stigma can be so pervasive and powerful that trans people have a much harder time living authentically.
Being fired for coming out as trans being the prime example of the 2019 Supreme Court case. But there is also stigma such as "trans people are delusional" that leads to psychological distress and mental health consequences.
Trans people exist, and they are who they say they are. That is just a fact. The next step is how we start with humanity, and treat them as equals in society. There are ubiquitous (cisnormative) narratives that are in conflict with the acceptance of trans people.
It is our duty to trust the science, put people first, and push back against those narratives.
