KATHA SRAVANTHI (Bedtime story):
Once Kumbhakarna brother of Ravana, comes to roam in Sahyadri parvatas, and falls in love with a woman named Karkati. Soon he leaves to the war, and gets killed. Karkati gives birth to a son BHEEMASURA. On learning that his father and his uncle
Were killed by Vishnu, he does severe penance to Brahma, and gets a boon that he should never be defeated or killed by Vishnu. He defeats a righteous King and an ardent Shiva Bhakta, PRIYADHARMA, and his wife SUDHAKSHINA of Kamarupa kingdom , and imprisons them. The couple makes
Shivalingam with mud( parthiva lingam) , and continue their pooja in the prison. Seeing this, BHEEMASURA, with all arrogance one day comes and throws his sword at the Lingam, and breaks it . From the broken Shivalingam, Shiva appears and with just a Hunkara, kills Bheemasura and
All his asuras. On the request of the King, Shiva becomes a swayambhu and appears on the base of a tree, and comes to be known as BHEEMA SHANKARA. Shiva mahapurana mentions this also as a jyotirlinga. This is situated at DAKINI HILL near PAMOHI in GUWAHATI. The Shiva linga is
Surrounded by a stream, which is said to have evolved from the sweat of Mahashiva during Bheemasura samhara. Water continuously flows on the Shivalinga here. Any attempt to construct a temple here fails in a mysterious way. Whenever a temple is constructed a herd of Elephants
Come and destroy the temple, worship the Shiva linga with water from the stream and leave. This has happened not once or twice but 7 times, one very recently. May be Shiva wants to be amidst nature in the open here.
The other jyotirlinga, which is near Pune Maharashtra is also BHEEMA SHANKARAJyotirlinga, which appeared as a result of penance by Vindhya parvata. Shiva Purana mentions both of these as Jyotirlinga.
Om Namah Shivaya 🙏
