Three years ago this week, @TheAtlantic published a lengthy piece written by @maxapotter and @MisterAlexFren1 about director Bryan Singer. Six months prior to the piece, my 4.5 year friendship with Bryan ended – the result of his increasingly psychotic and abusive behavior. 1/6
It’s difficult to fully convey his unparalleled levels of addiction and alcoholism & yet I tried, offering some on-record quotes to @TheAtlantic. I’d hoped speaking out bluntly would make him realize how sick he is. What I didn’t know, at the time, was how sick he’d made me. 2/6
Bryan is a genuine Jekyll & Hyde, masterfully manipulating everyone around him, “human chess” as he calls it. 3 1/2 years later, I’m only really just starting to gain perspective and understanding of how traumatic his behavior toward me, as well as so many others, was and is. 3/6
Bryan is an empathy vampire. He pulls those who care and want to help him closest, blinding them with kindness AND chaos to the point that you lose all sense of caring for yourself. That’s when you’re trapped, sometimes making excuses for him. I lived in a state of denial. 4/6
Trying to rationalize the behavior of someone seemingly incapable of remorse makes closure really difficult, especially when your intentions were good & the PTSD is overwhelming. It’s not easy to talk about Bryan but knowing he’s still causing others pain makes it necessary. 5/6
I support people like @blakestuerman & those others who come forward with difficult, very credible & honest accounts, sharing the long term damage they suffered in Bryan's hurricane of craziness & abuse. Bryan has to stop hurting people, there are already far too many of us. 6/6
