State-level laws pose hurdles for lawsuits seeking compensation for “forever chemical” #PFAS contamination, but some are trying to change that — however, such pushes have also met resistance, which has been particularly effective in GOP-led states.
In Vermont, an official in the governor’s office coordinated with a lobbyist in “watering down” a bill that aimed to make polluters pay for health screenings, emails obtained by The Hill show.
Meanwhile, in Michigan, an effort to give people more time to sue has languished in the legislature.
But, states like New York, New Hampshire and Maine have made changes in an effort to give people more time to sue over “forever chemical" #PFAS contamination. thehill.com/policy/energy-…

In today's final installment of the "Forever" series (Part 4 of 4), The Hill reporters @sharonudasin and @RachelFrazin explore how past toxic exposure cases have informed #PFAS lawsuits (thread) hill.cm/AsyZwG5
Statutes of limitations have long been a central player in other toxic exposure cases. Toxic exposure cases also present unique difficulties that would not come about in other cases, such as a lawsuit regarding an automobile accident or even medical malpractice cases.
According to attorney Kevin Hannon, in a case where a surgeon accidentally left a sponge inside a patient, lawyers could debate when the statute of limitations kicks in.“It isn’t even that clear in PFAS cases,” Hannon said.

Joe Biden: "Denying Congress the information which it is Constitutionally entitled to and obstructing its efforts to investigate actions is not the conduct of an American president. It's an abuse of power." hill.cm/FV4GQBD
Joe Biden: "I knew when I decided to run this president would attack me and anyone else who he thought would be a threat to his winning again. Well, that's what he does. That's what he's always done." hill.cm/FV4GQBD
