SEFF remembers Stephen Montgomery, 26, Protestant, RUC, married with 1 kid murdered on 28/1/89 by a drogue bomb that hit the vehicle he was sitting in, outside a disco in Sion Mills, re a routine inquiry. The bomb was thrown from a rooftop striking the car's roof & destroying ...

Stephen was fatally injured & another officer, badly hurt. People leaving the disco were laughing & jeering & had thrown stones & bottles at police & soldiers attempting to aid the injured.

A soldier was struck in the head by a bottle. A local CoI minister ....

SEFF remembers Matilda Witherington, 78, bank manager's widow, killed 48 yrs ago, 28/1/74. It's believed that when terrorists attacked an RAF bus outside her home in Shimna Pde, Newcastle, she was shot accidentally by an RAF Gnr as she watched the ambush from the first floor ...

SEFF remembers RUC Sgt Peter Gilgunn, 26, RC from Belcoo, Fermanagh, married with an 8 mth old son & RIC Const David Montgomery, 20, Protestant, from Cregagh area of E Belfast, murdered 50 yrs ago, 27/1/72, by PIRA as they drove along the Creggan Rd in L'derry.

Their car came..

..under fire by a no. of gunmen. One gunman fired from an alleyway & 2 others opened fire 40 yds away.

According to an RUC spokesman, the 2 officers didn't have a chance to return fire. The drive managed to accelerate to the RUC station despite his car being hit 17 times. ..

..During the attack, another officer was wounded & 2 others escaped injury.

In marking today's milestone anniversary SEFF will send a delegation to an outdoor Act of Remembrance held at the War Memorial in L'derry.

SEFF's thoughts & prayers are with all innocents impacted.

SEFF remembers Edward Wilson, 16, Corporal in the Air Cadet force, from Mountcollyer St off York St in Belfast, murdered by a 10lb PIRA booby-trap bomb when it exploded as he opened an inner door of an Air Training Corps hut on the Cavehill Rd. on 26/1/75. 5 boys on the grounds..

SEFF remembers Judge William Staunton, 46, RC, who died 49 yrs ago, 25/1/73 of his injuries after he was shot by PIRA on 11/10/72 as he drove his daughter & school friends to St Dominics school on Falls Rd.
He stopped the car outside & as the girls got out, 2 IRA members on a ..

Visiting trauma on children was of no concern to PIRA.

William underwent emergency surgery at the RVH & although he regained consciousness he died in hospital.

He was the 1st of the legal fraternity..

SEFF remembers John McColgan, 33, RC taxi driver, married with 3 kids, found on a grass verge on the outskirts of W Belfast. He'd been forced out of his taxi & shot 5 times in the back of the head on 24/1/98 by loyalist terrorists, There remains controversy as to whether it was..
