This morning @CareersUCC asked me to talk @UCC Humanities & Social Sciences (Virtual) Careers Week to BA students looking to progress their career in the Arts Administration, Librarianship, Curatorship & Museum sector. So what can you expect in my role in a library? 🧵 1/19

This week has been busy & this 🧵describes Monday-Wednesday. Hard to believe we’re still only on Thursday! It's not possible without the Special Collections & Archives team @mollytwomey1 Siobhan & Garret staffing our service point for @UCC staff, students & visitors. 2/19

Liaising with @uccenergy @UCCBandE @acarbery @emertwomey4 @emshorgan24 how installing Q floor's new access control system requires access to storage spaces @theriversideUCC & how this can be done safely for📚. We supervise the duration of works in the spaces each time. 3/19

@uccenergy @UCCBandE @acarbery @emertwomey4 @emshorgan24 @theriversideUCC New work placement student @UCCHistory started. From Mon-Wed Kian listed 19 early modern maps & 20 late 19th century letters. I planned another listing: 53 postcards. I arranged 4 visits around the library, one of completed at Q floor service desk. @hiramjmorgan 4/19

Planned 3 classes with @UCCHistory @NuaGhaeilgeUCC @uccarchaeology and Planning 2 different orientation sessions for three new & current @UCCLibrary staff & two student help working with @iam_stephaniec. For each identifying their requirements and selecting items to view. 5/19

Offered guest blog posts @theriversideUCC to MA in Museum Studies @uccarchaeology to describe more about their chosen objects following their library as classroom & hands-on session

Arranged Transition Year placement for March on items in the Hawtin Collection libguides.ucc.ie/displayinghawt… 7/19

Received new collection item and placed it in appropriate housing. Before it can be made available to users it must first be listed & catalogued. 8/19

Research query received on 20th century social & sporting activities in Macroom and how/where to locate primary sources. The Irish Newspaper Archive database available @UCCLibrary is a great place to start. @IrishNewspapers  9/19

In-house testing Special Collections & Archives online request form to include messaging & calendar functions with @pjdchd. Still some niggles to sort. Then recalibrated book scanner so images don’t have a ‘yellow glow’. 10/19

In-house retrieve, process & update 44 item records identified during working from home period in the last year. @carolinephilpot & team updated 87 matching bibliographic records from earlier batch. 11/19

Prepared two upcoming promotional activities #ColorOurCollections and #PiDay first @emertwomey4 @emshorgan24 Special Collections & Archives team, then with @iam_stephaniec & @martinoconnor3. Selected 10 #ColorOurCollections images & 49 #PiDay recipes. 18/19

Phew! It’s been a busy few days but more to come. Today an online session: Meet the National Libraries series @NatLibFi to learn about new search tools, digital collections, national bibliographies & portals. Tomorrow another day of @UCCBandE @UCCLibrary works. 19/19
