A gas-powered car burns more energy just to idle in a parking lot than an electric car uses to cruise down the road at 55MPH.
(*Details: midsized gasoline engine at idle burns just over 0.3 gallons per hour = 11-12 kW electricity equivalent. Electric cars use about 0.2 kWh per mile at 55 MPH speed. And 55 x 0.2 = 11 kW.)

In lieu of blogging, we spent some of the past month "cutting the pipe" at @MMMHqCoworking - all electric heat pump for heating+cooling, small electric water heater, ZERO natural gas bills ever again!
All DIY, combined with our DIY solar array = this sucker is running for free!
More details: this is the 54k BTU Mr. Cool ducted system ($~4000 from Home Depot). Works even down to -20F. Super easy to install due to pre-charged lineset. I just had to do some, ahem, creative work to adapt it to our building's century old ducts.
The economics are good too: since we are a commercial building, our natural gas rates were higher ($300+ per year in monthly fees even before you start using gas!) So we start off $300 in the green each year, and savings go up from there due to cheaper heat.
WOW! @CapitalOne Just froze my bank account (and all $309,000 of cash I had collected for an upcoming house purchase), and said I have to call to release it. But then they put me on hold and never answer.
25:08 and counting on my SECOND attempt. Feels like I have been robbed.
This is insane to do this to a customer unilaterally - their entire financial life is frozen, entire house deal could be derailed.
Other people could lose their primary house, cars, incur tax penalties, etc. And you can't even give me access to a person to unlock it.
Need to get this set of crooks off of my recommendation list right now and forever after. You should also NEVER have telephone-only service.
On the telephone side Google Fi does it right with chat/email support run by people who can actually solve problems.
