Would you like to get this guy expelled from the Alaska State legislature? Here’s what you can do Monday to help! (Be sure to retweet this whole thread, to begin with!)
(1/18)
If you don’t know who your legislator is, find them on this website: openstates.org/find_your_legi…. You’re look for your State House (not State Senate) representative.
(2/18)
Monday, let’s target members of the House Majority (plus un-caucused @sararasmussenak , my own representative). The Minority will get their turn in the barrel, I promise.
If you don’t want to commit to a specific time, that’s OK! You can call at any time. But having planned blocks makes sure there is constant contact with legislators.
(5/20)
If you sign up for a specific time, but miss that block of time, that’s OK too! You can call at any time. But having planned blocks makes sure there is constant contact with legislators.
(6/20)
If someone has already signed up for a time you prefer, that’s OK! More than one person per block can call. But having planned blocks makes sure there is constant contact with legislators.
(7/20)
If you are uncomfortable with calling, or can't call during a work-day, e-mail. Calling is better than e-mailing, but e-mailing is better than nothing. If you’re gonna e-mail, e-mail now so legislators have a giant backlog in their inboxes telling them to expel Eastman.
(8/20)
If you live in the district of a MAJORITY member, sign up to call your own member, AND the Speaker of the House (Louise Stutes, District 32), AND the House Majority Leader (Chris Tuck, District 23). Three calls.
(9/20)
If you live in a MINORITY district, sign up to call ONLY the Speaker of the House (Louise Stutes, District 32), AND the House Majority Leader (Chris Tuck, District 23). Two calls. The Minority will get their turn in the barrel, I promise.
(10/20)
So everyone should call at least two, and maybe three, legislators on Monday. If you can’t get through when you call, try again in a few minutes.
(11/20)
When you get through, be polite. Legislative Staffers have difficult jobs that don’t pay all that well. I know because I used to be a legislative intern. But be firm, and be heard.
(12/20)
11) When you get through, say something like this: “My name is ______ and I am a resident of District __. Article XII, Section 4 of the Alaska Constitution states:
(13/20)
‘No person who aids or belongs to any party or organization or association which advocates the overthrow by force or violence of the government of the United States shall be qualified to hold any public office of trust or profit under this constitution.’
(14/20)
Rep David Eastman of District 10 is a ‘proud’ life member of Oath Keepers, a seditious militia that advocates the overthrow by force or violence of the government of the United States.
(15/20)
As a constituent/citizen, I want to know what you/the House majority intends to do about Rep. Eastman’s membership in a seditious militia, and when you intend to do it. Thank you for listening!”
(16/20)
This is not a script! If you know your rep, or know the staffer, tailor the message in a way you know will make it as well-received as possible.
(17/20)
Listen to what they say in return. Then, post the results on your social media! What did s and encourage others to call! Just because someone hasn’t signed up for a time in advance doesn’t mean they can’t call. Call, call, call.
(18/20)
The more people call, the better. Call, call, call. Only 28 people each legislator will ensure a call is made every 15 minutes. Make it 84, and a call is made every *5* minutes.
(19/20)
I bet we can get at least 84 Alaskans to call Louise Stutes and Chris Tuck on Monday to demand action against this guy: What do you think? Don't forget to retweet this thread! #akleg
