So the whole question that arises is whether Ibrahim(عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ) was being a so and so? (I am not going to utter those words)

Amina Wadud added her own spin on this and frankly speaking her framing from the start to finish is disrespectful and does not

warrant any sort of consideration.

Ibrahim(عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ) was a God fearing man who very much loved his son. When you are narrating the tale of our beloved Prophet to children, that is the first thing that you need to firmly establish.

Don't just drop these events randomly. Especially with kids.

So once you establish Ibrahim(عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ) loved his family then you tackle the questions like why did he leave his family in the middle of the desert.

Like all Prophets Ibrahim(عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ) was tested. It was a test of obedience for him and it was also a test of obedience for his family.

Life is not ideal and unfortunately there are cases where wives are abandoned by husbands or they face situations-

where they need to fend for themselves. The tale of Ibrahim(عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ) is a lesson for all families who face the struggle of not having a father.

Hajar(عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ) endured this test gracefully and she would go on to establish a

community in Makkah and raise her son to be upright God fearing man.

Ishmael(عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ) would face further tests as an adult before he with his father would construct the Kabah, the holiest site in Islam.

The lesson to derive from this story are two things:

1. Obedience to Allah.
2. Having Taqwa in Allah and dealing with every hardship with patience and perseverance and surely Allah rewards those who are patient.

Ibrahim(عَلَيْهِ ٱلصَّلَاةُ وَٱلسَّلَامُ) made this sacrifice(make no mistake, not being able to see his son and wife is an immense sacrifice) so those within the Ummah who are tested with hardships can find inspiration and stand on their own.

This a common theme in all Prophetic stories. Obedience towards Allah. Patience with hardship and persevering in Ibadah.

It's not really that complicated to explain to children and I do not see the reason for such hysteria.

We would have had these questions as children too but because how our teachers taught us, we did not have such an issue.
