#Iraq's federal supreme court is due to consider questions relating of the largest bloc in parliament. Among the documents they will consider is this list of the supposed members of the 88-MP strong Coordination Framework (thread)
Most of the seats in the Coordination Framework bloc list are bigger Shiite Islamist parties, claiming the following numbers of seats:
State of Law 33
Fatah 18
Tahaluf Qiwan al-Dawla al-Wataniya 4
Tahaluf al-aqd al-watani 4
Tahaluf al-Iraq al-Mustaqill 10
In total 69
Smaller parties with just one MP each add another 7 seats to the Coordination Framework bloc claim:
Tahaluf al-Manhaj al-Watani, Tahaluf al-Muntij al-Watani, Harakat Biladi al-Wataniya, Harakat Huquq, Tayyar al-Furatayn, Tahaluf al-Amal al-Watani, Tajammu Iqtidar Watan
Independent MPs add another 7 seats to the Coordination Framework bloc claim:
Thathar Abd al-Jalil al-Saidi (Baghdad), Adil Hashush (Dhi Qar),Nasik Mahdi Ghrayb (Salahaddin), Ali Turki al-Mansuri (Babel), Yasin Hashim Ali (Babel), Yusuf Salim Hamid (Maysan),Ahmad Jawad (Karbala)
MPs representing Shiite ethnic majorities (Shabak and Fayli Kurds) add two more seats to the Coordination Framework bloc claim:
Waad al-Qaddo (Nineveh)
Hussein Ali Mardan (Wasit)
Finally, the document submitted by the Coordination Framework in order to substantiate their claim to be the biggest bloc in Iraq's parliament refers to 3 more unnamed independents whose signatures are supposed to be in a separate document, bringing the bloc size to 88 MPs.
Among the more controversial aspects of the Coordination Framework claim, if it even gets the consideration of the federal supreme court, will be whether all the MPs in the claimed sub-blocs that signed up through their supposed leaders are really standing firmly behind the bid.
It has also been claimed that one MP among the 88 supposed members of the Coordination Framework bloc, Adil Hashush, technically remains a government minister and has not been sworn in as an MP yet.
Iraqi media reporting that the country's supreme court has just postponed the consideration of the issue of the biggest bloc in parliament until Thursday 3 Feb alsumaria.tv/news/%D8%B3%D9…
When Iraq's supreme court considers the "biggest bloc" case, in addition to looking at the Coordination Framework claim to having 88 MPs, it may also have to consider a second Sadrist biggest bloc claim, reportedly with some Sunni MPs added iramcenter.org/en/iraqi-5th-p…
Among the problematic aspects of any revised Sadrist bloc claim is that by presenting two different bloc claims during one session of parliament, it may raise doubts about its real coherence. Also some of these MPs may have been involved in subsequent & new Sunni bloc formations.
Also, the Iraq supreme court may discuss art. 45 of the new election law, which some claim limit the possibilities of post-election bloc formation more generally. However, that restriction is specifically limited to "open lists" and not to individual candidacies.
#Iraq's supreme court has just ruled against the application by the pro-Iranian Coordination Framework to be officially designated "the biggest bloc" in parliament rudaw.net/arabic/middlee…
Interestingly Iraq's (new) supreme court appears to take a different view on designation of the biggest bloc compared to the position articulated by the previous court in 2010, saying bloc formation can go on until the president has been elected (some of ruling still unpublished)
