This is an interesting position, but I don't want to give away what really stands out.

White to move. Let's see your thoughts. 3rr1k1/1p3np1/p1p1pq1p/2Pp1...
What was interesting about this puzzle is it shows how we prioritize ideas. People came up with plans instead of just moves, and that was great

The main attacking idea was a "minority attack" by pushing b5. It's a fine idea.
The second idea, and the one played in the game, was also found by some in the comments. It's hard to see because it's very counterintuitive.

It looks at what black is threatening to do (play...e5), and stops it. That move is f4!

It blocks the bishop, but that's okay.
It creates a weakness on e4, but the black Knight isn't able to get to the square anytime soon. A weakness is really only a weakness if it can be exploited.

Here's the game this is from

This is an incredibly broad definition of racism.

So now anyone who suggests black students are less qualified for elite schools, or black workers for management jobs, is engaging in racism.

All those who suggest black biological or cultural inferiority are now being racist. ADL interim definition of r...
All those who suggest black biological or cultural inferiority are now engaging in racism according to the Anti-Defamation League.

All those who assume black people are less intelligent or capable, are engaging in racism.
I know some like it because it also labels attempt to address the impacts of racism are racist, but they rarely want their assumptions of inferiority to be labeled racism.

My hottest take:

While Rachel Dolezal claimed to be black and others around her thought she was black, she *was* black.

As there's no essence to race, a person is whatever they are recognized as in terms of social positioning.
Because social race isn't fixed, a person *can* transition between races as socially labeled. If within one social circle a person presents and is racialized as race X and in another circle as race Y, then both labels are concurrently valid socially.
Of course, all of this is built on this truth about social race. It's a label placed upon us that we chose to recognize and others can recognize too

So nothing prevents multiple, even conflicting labels within different circles. Nothing prevents fluidity

I'm far from a supporter of communism, but the comparison of communism to Nazism is silly to me.

A lot of horrible things happened under communism, monarchism, and democracy.

Judge a philosophy as immoral on its own merits, not simply that bad things happened under it's rule.
What people are really arguing is that Stalin's decision to kill people is somehow an inherent idea of communism. It's a bad argument.

Enslaving black people isn't an inherent idea of Republicanism either, but using the same bad argument...
Staying consistent with my previous positions, I do think it's reasonable to say these bad things reflected on the underlying ideologies.

I just think a lot of those ideologies we treat as morally neutral or good, have more than plenty blood on their hands (e.g liberalism)

It's hard to understand the reasoning of those who think the public using speech and the free market is an authoritarian infringement of Free Speech.
Within much of the discussion about free speech is an assumption that there should be a social hierarchy in terms of whose speech is more respected.

The disruption of that hierarchy is seen as an attack on their expected social order.
I personally believe the government should have very little say in public speech. With few exceptions, the public on the other hand should be completely free to speak and react to speech, as long as it's within the law.

So I noted a big debate in genetics circles.

What is "genetic determinism"? Because a lot of things seem to turn on the definition of a term that a lot of credible people disagree on.
Another question:

If child A has a higher PGS for trait X than child B and the environment is considered fair, isn't the argument people make that child A is expected to have a better outcomes on X?

Isn't that deterministic?
Maybe that's too simplistic on my part. Maybe a PGS is simply a number that when interacting with the environment can produce any sort of outcome after all.

But I don't feel like that's the narrowness with which I encounter them in the wild.

So many people gave me a break I had no right to expect, or did me a favor I had no right to claim I deserve.

Without them I couldn't be where I am today.

I can't imagine thinking I got here only with help I was entitled to. I am because they were. I do this to honor them.
I'm not even talking about super powerful people either. I was friends with the secretaries at my college. So often I needed something printed or to use equipment. They had me.

I refuse to forget those who built me up. A lot of others didn't get those chances.
Is being nice and decent and caring about people merit? Is valuing the dignity of those around me, and wishing for their success merit? Is sharing warm smile merit?

I don't think the term merit has much utility, but I know the type of person I value differs with some people.
