Rep. Nguyen: "Why don't [private] schools have the same level of accountability & scrutiny as our public schools?"
Rep. Cantrell: "You're right. They don't have the same level of accountability. They have a much higher level of accountability. Families have the freedom to leave"
Nguyen: "But we are using public money for private schools"
Cantrell: "We're giving money back to the taxpayers and allowing them to use it how they see fit - to fund students and not systems. We already do this with the Pell Grant.. the GI Bill.. pre-K"
Rep. Cantrell: "The money follows the student. We do in pre-K.. we do it in higher ed.
All I'm asking is that we consider that same logic for K-12."
