Today we are publishing our Quarterly Harms report for Q4 ahead of Facebook's quarterly earnings call.
Research from us and @Avaaz estimates that if Facebook acted earlier, it could have prevented *10 Billion* views to pages/groups sharing misinformation in Brazil.
As we note, @jairbolsonaro repeatedly pushed election conspiracy theories such as electronic vote tabulators or ballots were rigged.
Based on the above data and other factors we cover in the report, we assigned the following scores based on our "Facebook Insurrection Enablement Index" to Facebook's activity in Brazil.
As always, we document who we call the "disinformation superspreaders" activity in Q4 noting that Ben Shapiro and Dan Bongino are still right at the top (despite the latter's ban from Youtube after he repeatedly spread COVID misinformation.
We repeat our simple, clear demand to Facebook that they should uprank quality news sources by reprioritizing reputability in the news algorithm.
The new rules have been an active threat to freedom of expression since their approval in 2021, and the situation has worsened with new amendments approved in 2023
