Glassdoor Reviews by former WWE employees / contractors:

[thread]

"You could be released at any time. There's no benefits, no health insurance and the contracts were extremely one-sided."
"Culture can be toxic at times"
"Long hours
Not great pay
Work on holidays"
"Diverse? Not so much. The environment was very political and you can hear people talk about you if you don't fit in. It was a passive-aggressive vibe I got. If you're not a naturally extroverted person, this is not the place for you."
"no merit, terrible pay, no direction. Senior Management is a joke"
"Everyone in charge is afraid of Vince McMahon and losing their jobs"
"At times you may have to wear more than one hat. Pay for data scientists is below industry average"
"DO NOT WORK HERE. TOXIC AND HORRIBLE"
"Unpredictability No/limited holidays off I’ve been called into work on Christmas and during my vacation HR is a scam and are corporate robots. Nice though Communication is all over the place"
"No free drinks in the lobby"
"stress can be overwhelming at times"
"Extremely expensive area of the country to live. Sometimes, over demanding. Management can be a lot better."
"Do not make them mad"
"Inability to be offline. They can burnout their employees pretty quickly. Management expectations change with the wind."
"you are surrounded by toxicity"
"This is where most people work when they can't find a job in legitimate entertainment. And there's no one you can trust (especially human resources). At WWE they don't bother to stab you in the back, they stab you in the front."
"Fear driven, top-down, grueling and toxic culture. Execs do NOT want your ideas and treat staff as replaceable commodities. Expected to work nights and weekends, will be given no respect, and terminated at a moment's notice for perceived disobedience. NOBODY is happy."
"Management are tough! They hate failure"
"WWE is a 24/7 machine. If you’re looking to clock out at 5 this is not the place for you. Everyone works very hard and with live programming during the week many departments work outside 9-5 schedules. Departments can be very small and hard to move up"
"A lot of turnover at the highest levels of the company with very little heads up about it. Seems like people get fired all the time."
"Must be a wrestling fanatic to work there. Believers can be intolerable."
"For some reason the corporate office was horrible at paying road crew on time. For a billion dollar corporation it was quite frankly just embarrassing on their part"
"senior management is challenging to work for, very strict hierarchy"
"Toxic work environment, no structure, and HR is useless

Get rid of the boys club and create a more inclusive environment"
"There is a very “cliquey” feel between different groups that sometimes gives off a high school vibe. Promotions are ridiculously slow there is no way to be confident that you are going to get one. "
"No place for women, hyper masculine culture , cut throat culture, no sense of community, ok pay but not worth it this place will rob your happiness"
"Very hierarchy structure is very firm. There is a sense of fear of the senior level executives. One mistake and they will fire you. There is never a strong sense of job security."
"The work environment was toxic"
"Top-heavy management, sometimes difficult to move up. Not enough resources to meet unpredictable work assignments that are added on top of daily duties."
"WWE does not care about it's employees and the people that work for them"
"* Toxic working environment
* Say only what leaders want to hear not what they should hear
* Culture of managing up only and treating subordinates as expendable"
"Could use some updates on small office equipment."
"Top heavy hiring, minimal support for execution staff"
"Leadership has no clue what they are doing."
"Horrible management Toxic work environment"
"Long Hours, but that's expected within the industry."
"Hostile, cut throat, 85+ hour weeks"
"Long hours, tenure based promotions"
"The Company makes billions but pays pennies
NO DIVERSITY AT THE STUDIO FOR MINORITIES.
No bonuses
Takes a while to move up unless you luck up
Knew two women who felt harassed but the accused guy still works there"
"Time and schedule is tight and work pressure is relatively high."
"Requires many hours, sometimes up to 55 hours a week"
"Long hours, changing storylines led to last minute changes"
"Managers are not nice. Most people are unhappy. Very political environment and no one really knows what is going on. Very stressful and unfriendly. People get fired a lot."
"Every employee is disposable. Toxic environment. Zero ability to contribute. You’re there to do as you’re told. You either get fired or get absolutely burnt out. There is 30% employee turnover there every year. Ask the company about it. Average length of employment is < 2 years"
"Every day's plan got wiped out due to the need to put out fires."
"It's all a political game. No one ever takes ownership for their faults and it's a blame game."
"micro-management from the C-suite, decisions are 100% top-down, people get fired for falling out of line"
"horrible work environment, management can't ever make up their mind, no independent leadership, chaos is rampant every where."
"Negative and occasionally abusive culture; Employees often afraid for their jobs, which hinders productivity; Work/life balance poor"
""Boys club" environment. Top management disregards facts that dispute their pre-conceived beliefs. If anyone decides you are part of the problem, you're gone, regardless of where/when/how you showed up."
"Horrible management, rampant fear, absurd politics, infighting, incompetent middle management, culture of fear & abuse, stupid commute, crappy office space, zero lunch options"
"most people don't last more than a year, turnover is VERY high"
"Poor Management, No Career Growth ( They hire people from outside than promoting and giving chance to internal candidate), No new projects, Application Support of outdated version, Doesn't think of long term solutions."
"Occasional impulsive "firings" keep people on edge in terms of job security.
Lack of clear expectations from the top down. Upper management can be more reactive than pro-active."
"Rough hours (overnights, evenings, weekends, etc.)
Live-TV can be stressful.
Other departments are even more stressful."
"The work to home life ratio is out of whack. You'll spend a lot of time at work."
"IT and Finance cannot stand each other and make it a living nightmare to get any IT related Finance requests completed."
"Lunch is on the expensive side."
"The cutthroat environment is unbelievable."
"Very tolerant of bad behavior that wouldn't fly in other companies. Hard to advance if an outside hire rather than came up through the ranks."
"They have a problem with talent churn. Human Resources department at the time did not seem to appreciate the importance of finding ways to hold onto talent internally, even if interests are to change departments, rather then let them leave."
"You can very easily be forgotten as there is a big crew and fast paced work. There's a clear division in between suits and technical workers, with very little career path between worlds."
"Heavy internal office politics, rapid shifts in direction and leadership staffing. When you get support, you get full support. When you don't, you never know why. When you lose support, it's a total mystery."
"Stressful environment. Very results oriented and there is a lot of pressure put on employees. Lots of long hours and nigh"
"stuffy, unfriendly environment. You would think a sports entertainment company would be more fun, energetic, laid back, friendly. Not the case."
"Late nights are a part of the job, and they're frequent"
"Worst place to work if you have a family especially- was given a problem about my hours. After being told it was okay to go pick up my children certain days of week all of a sudden it was no longer acceptable. "
"There are real cancers on the digital team. Mean spirited people who are more concerned about posting their political opinions on Facebook than answering an email. Same people get promoted every year while it seems those who work the most never grow."
"Some members of the senior management team are pretty harsh. Culture starts at the top and when you see that one of them is calling you the initial reaction tends to be "uh oh." This isn't the reaction a senior manager should want to create, but I think they know (and like it)."
"Highly political, leadership is out to lunch especially at the C-level. Revolving door outside of the McMahon family. Toxic corporate culture."
"work-life balance is non existent, very political and stressful environment and executive managers control everything and will make decisions based off business need not necessarily logical."
"Tough culture and definitely not for everyone. Very demanding schedule and work life balance is a struggle. Company direction can change on a dime."
"I got it through a temp agency and the pay is very low. This seems to be a disconnect between everyone in every dept. For the most part people will smile at you but they are not necessarily nice."
"There is no work/life balance. Hours are long and you will not get overtime. Comp days are hard to come by."
"Culture is shockingly bad-- especially within the leadership ranks. Most of the issues hidden from the Chairman."
"Crazy senior management, 24/7 expectations, nothing is ever good enough, no meetings ever start on time, turnover as senior staff is often terminated by chairman."
"Horrible Management, terrible Work/Life balance. People promoted to SVP who would barely qualify to be Production Assistants anywhere else. Outside people ignored, long term incompetent execs hailed as geniuses. Very rough, crude, and unprofessional culture."
"I worked here for 4 years, the company is in constant peril and infighting-not "friction breeding best ideas". The Network has consumed all company resources and is a complete disaster from the strategy, which I was a part of, to its management now which I am not."
"Very political work environment, lack of defined career progression, work life balance is not great if you want to succeed, training and development opportunities rare"
"The office is in Stanford which is a pain coming from the city."
"It's a place where you have to watch your back at all times. Decisions are often based on if it will trigger an exec's bonus rather than if it's in the overall good of the company."
"Very difficult to get ahead once you're in; moving up the ladder doesn't come easy, though many higher up like to claim that the environment is designed for entry-level employees to move up. Work is expected to come first over everything, which can be draining"
"Unprofessional, inappropriate, work place. Leadership team is toxic. Over work people with little to no recognition. Not a place to work for long-term career growth."
"The leadership strategy at WWE is two fold, intimidation of leadership and zero promotion from within."
"Manage through fear. Too many Managers, not enough Doers. No such thing as work-life balance. They view you as property that is available to them 24/7 even when on "vacation"."
"Pay isn't great. Tough to move through early and mid-career points. Highly political atmosphere that will downright disregard your ability or talent if someone more important than you decides they dislike you."
"It's like being in junior high in terms of office politics. It's hard to feel good about your job when a lot of the executive staff is so demeaning."
"They hire production assistants to do assistant editor and associate producer work for $14 an hour. Hours can be very long and demanding."
"was only there for 3 years and my whole department was moved (seating and floors) at least 3 times, changed bosses at least 3 times and went through so much infrastructure changes it was detrimental to the work."
"They don't honor contracts and are over staffed with lawyers to snake their way out of contracts with employees. Human Resources is a department of Lawyers in disguise to protect employees."
"Consistent top down interference without the necessary relevant market experience to provide meaningful feedback or to add value to the teams actually delivering the business growth results"
"People are promoted based on "friendships" they have with members of management. The finance department was a nightmare!!!!! HORRIBLE leadership!!!"
"The location is not ideal, and it is very difficult to commute there if you do not have a car. When I worked there, WWE offered a commuter shuttle. However, since I often worked late, it was unavailable when I needed it. Luckily people would offer me rides."
"Some upper management was on a power trip, and few were unfriendly. Some departments kept to themselves, were not as friendly as others."
"Many projects with flawed strategies that would have implications on workflow, execution, employee attitude and and much larger issues. Lots of backstabbing and lack of ownership on projects. Very "cliquey" Relied very heavily on Freelance workers."
"No work-life balance. Management keeps changing direction with their marketing plans and expect people to work 24/7"
"It is a politically charged atmosphere, where sometimes talented people are held back because someone knows someone. Hard to move up."
"Work from home discouraged, there is no work/life balance and promotions are incremental at best but not much incentive as it's better to leave to rise in your career."
"The secretive culture behind the direction of the TV creative product hampers all future planning throughout the company."
"No regard for one's personal time. too reliant on emails to cover one's mistakes."
"Very, political, very cut throat, and senior management all seem to have their own personal agendas. High turn overs"
"Stuck in Glory Days
Needs to reinvent itself, but egos at the top won't change anything
Most people are lifers who have no fresh points of view."
"Management makes own decisions, changes are made and then have to be reversed. The lack of communication between departments makes it hard to get things done in a timely manner."
"Management is awful. Unfair and undeserved promotions given. They based promotions more on those who kiss a** rather than actual talent."
"The management is beyond clueless and too worried about keeping their jobs to offer any mentoring to their team members."
"Lack of pay, job security and management that swears and yells at their employees constantly. Numerous staff members were in tears daily and they were the good workers! "

#OnThisDay in 2018: Thomas Billington, best known to wrestling fans as the Dynamite Kid, passed away on his 60th Birthday.

Dynamite Kid was a real game-changer in this business. For his time, he was a revolutionary worker with near unrivalled intensity and working ability.

RIP
Born in Golborne, Lancashire, England, wrestling was in his blood. His father Bill, uncle Eric, and grandfather Joe were all boxers at one point or another; another of his ancestors, James, most famous for being a state-employed executioner, wrestled as a child.
Thomas was drawn into sports as a youth himself, taking up interest in wrestling, gymnastics, and boxing. After catching the attention of wrestler Ted Betley, Billington began formal wrestling training, primarily as a way to avoid working in the coal mines.

"Paul, why did you hit me so hard?" Funk asked again, laughing. Funk was referring to a hard punch Jones landed above Funk's left eye that had opened him up and required 18 stitches to close later that night in a Greensboro hospital.

#OnThisDay in 1997: WWF Survivor Series PPV:
Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart by "submission" to the WWF Title.
[Thread]
In the hours leading up to the match, Hart, Michaels, and Pat Patterson worked out the match finish: Shawn would hook in Bret's finishing maneuver, the sharpshooter, while referee Earl Hebner was knocked out from a ref bump. Bret would reverse it and Michaels would tap out.
While Bret tried to revive the referee, Michaels would hit Sweet Chin Music. A second referee would count the fall, but behind the referee, members of the Hart Foundation would run in and break up the pin. The first referee would revive and Hart would kick out at two.

Hulk Hogan Lies Over The Years [thread]
The Wrestler director Darren Aronofsky offered him the lead role three times. Hogan claims he turned it down because "he didn't deserve it".

Aronofsky categorically denies that Hogan was ever even considered for the role.
He was an all-state pitcher in high school, and that he was scouted by both the New York Yankees and the Cincinnati Reds, but an injury prevented him from signing with either team.
