For the love of everything good stop talking to the restaurant lobby that has been wanting no restrictions since the start.
The “Alberta Hospitality Association” was formed solely to go against health restrictions at the start of the pandemic. From all I can see they do not care about the health of their employees or their customers. It’s all political garbage.
The head the “Association” had plans to run for Mayor this past fall. I mean c’mon. It’s all bullshit.
How about some interviews with the family members of the countless restaurant staff that have committed suicide because of the the yo-yo restrictions and perpetual workplace risk? The crushing pressure of hoping you don’t get sick because you can’t pay your bills if you do.
Irresponsible.

Quick thread coming…

I just saw a reply on a tweet by @JanisIrwin where she was expressing condolences for the 26 Covid deaths in Alberta over the last 24 hours. The reply said the same old thing of “let’s all move on and anyone over 65 or sick can stay home”.
We have all heard that rhetoric for the past 2 years. It’s extremely hurtful to anyone with medical conditions or (obviously) anyone over 65. But sure let’s say we “lock up” those with pre-existing conditions or over 65. The rest of us can just move on and live our lives, right?
Over the past 24 hours four children were hospitalized with Covid - one of whom is a baby who is now in the ICU.

But we need to lift restrictions and just move on. Hospital stays aren’t traumatic for children or their families, right?

Kenney seems to think the end of vaccine passports will be some huge win. Why? 79% of us are vaccinated. Many people I know still don’t feel confident about going to restaurants. As Hinshaw has repeated, “no matter where you go at least one person there will have Covid.”
Many Albertans feel an extra sense of security and confidence going to a restaurant because they know everyone around them is vaccinated. Could they still get Omicron? Possibly. But the chance and severity is reduced.
There are countless restaurant workers who have been sick this past month because they’re working with unmasked patrons all day. Dozens of restaurants have had to temporarily close due to illness. This risk will now be heightened.
