I keep hearing the same mantra from @JustinTrudeau about vaccination uptake in Canada.

"Canadians stepped up and did the right thing."

I thought I would make a 🧵 of what voluntary means in Canada in 2022.

Do you want to board a domestic or international flight, or travel by VIA rail in Canada?

Then you must be vaccinated.

There are only a few limited exemptions, oh and by the way if you lie about them you could be charged with a criminal offence or fined.

The previous tweet is just for traveling in Canada. More on that later.

But look at the dystopian hassle you have to go through even if you are a vaccinated citizen returning to your own country.

But it's all good, you can return to Canada if you are unvaccinated...

But you have to have a quarantine plan.

Can we all just agree at this point that quarantine is just another word for incarceration?

Don't worry, your privacy is protected.

The ArriveCAN app only uses information you willingly provided because you stepped up to protect your fellow Canadians.

You are a GOOD PERSON.

You have a fundamental right to be able to travel around Canada, leave, and re-enter Canada.

The Constitution Act (1982) protects you from the overreach of institutions. These are individuals rights to protect you from The Man.

When politicians say they have created travel policies because YOU don't have the right to make other people sick they are making that up out of thin air.

You don't have the right to not get sick. People are going to spread disease, it is a natural phenomenon.

Canada is the 2nd largest country on Earth.

It is totally reasonable to expect that Canadians move from province to province for work, school or relationships.

It is totally unreasonable to expect an unvaccinated Canadian to have to travel by car as the only option.

This is how long it would take you to travel from one side of the country to the other using the most direct highways if you are unvaccinated.

3.5 days assuming you never stop for any reason.

If this effects only 1 Canadian it is unreasonable to do so.

Here is what voluntarily stepping up and doing the right thing looks like in Ontario.

Unvaccinated? Sorry, you don't get to take part in basically all cultural society in Ontario that you used to be able to.

Better add a QR code APP on your phone along with your ArriveCAN.

But at least I can work and make a living, right? Nope.

If you are work in a long-term care facility in Ontario vaccination is MANDATORY.

If you work in a hospital it is not mandatory to be vaccination but CEOs went ahead and made it so without being forced by legislation.

There are dozens of hospitals that have done this.

This is not a voluntary program, this is coercion.

Almost every workplace in Ontario now has a vaccination policy. Some are lucky and have employers who allow them to take RATs prior to coming to work. Some are even luckier that their employer pays for those tests.

Time for an anecdotal story.

In February of 2021 my employer told our staff that we were jumping ahead of the line for vaccinations.

Vaccinations was "voluntary" however if you were unvaccinated and caught COVID you would no longer be granted free time off, you would have to use your sick days.

By June 2021 that policy changed, it didn't matter if you were vaccinated or unvaccinated, you had to use sick days. Many people would have waited to be vaccinated if they had known that switch was going to be made, and made so quickly.

Why did you get vaccinated?

Did you do the right thing to protect fellow Canadians, or did you want to live a life free of hassle?

The intent of the Charter was to protect individuals from the Government.

The Rule of Law means everyone is held to the same standards.

Oh my gosh, silly me!

I totally forgot to mention you also can’t claim EI benefits if you are fired due to being unvaccinated.
