QP kicks off with Bergen calling for plan to lift restrictions instead of going slow “because of the prime minister’s ego, pride and denial.”

Some backbench start cheering “we want Joël” (Lightbound)

PM talks about people making sacrifices to protect each other.
Both accuse each other of not following science (which is not novel).
O’Toole and Lightbound are not seated in the Commons
Jugular yet still jovial exchange between Berthold and Trudeau ends with laugh of incredulity on both sides and Deltell slamming both his hands on top of his desk
Lightbound remains in seat 115, next to Liz May in fourth row, which had not changed since the sitting resumed last week, and possibly last year. The seating plan was updated today.
Tories have very loud uproar when PM Trudeau leaves. (House rules forbid pointing out someone's absence in chamber, so this is a tactic to register a party's displeasure). Speaker gets things back on track.
The Tories keep saying Lightbound was a "senior Liberal" which is not how I would describe the MP
Bergen quite heated in a heckle, right hand pulling down mask, jabbing with left, "the prime minister was vaccinated three times and he got/caught COVID… he could've given it you" she said to area where LeBlanc/Holland/Gerretsen/Lamoureux sit.

Gerretsen replied "he didn't die"
Speaker is losing control of the heckling, gives 15 seconds for things to peter out as some on Tory benches decry the "mask police."

(The Speaker has had to remind MPs to keep mask on when not speaking to House, on both sides of aisle.)
Speaker had to intervene again when someone in Tory side heckled a minister was "misleading Canadians" which you cannot say even when you have the floor.
Programming note: I am tweeting curiosities through the week, which catching some of Commons vibe during QP for a feature I'm working on. But @journo_dale is the dean of QP-watching, and you should watch/read the actual proceedings if you want to know what's being discussed.
So don't come for me, tweeps 😙
Topic of inflation seems to be treated a bit differently than others among Tory bench — there is near silence when Q is asked and then heckling as Freeland responds. I do not know if this is a clip-generating exercise for social, but the silence has not applied to other topics
The Zoom is very choppy today, prompting jeers from some of the opposition parties.
Bloc now noting the interpretation isn't working because the Zoom lag which Speaker is noting appears to be an Internet issue.
Also some of the zooming ministers have headset microphones placed in the middle of nowhere, away from mouth so hard to hear. Not first time I've seen this. I don't know if that's a comms choice for the image. But HoC instruction is near mouth (but not directly breathing on it)
Kenora MP Melillo asks about Experimental Lakes Area budget allocation and asks neutrally whether this budget promise will be fulfilled. Guilbeault offers a partisan take on Harper policies and says in general they support science.
Alberta MP Shannon Stubbs has first Question Period question in months (as per Open Parliament algorithm). She had been sparse this fall particularly after a leak that some suspected stemmed from her disagreements with O'Toole.

QP underway. Bergen starts off on vaccine mandates with no targets for end; suggests PM likes the restrictions that a "growing number of his MPs" disagree with (personally have not heard of any since Lightbound).
Trudeau says Tories have "refusal to listen to science" and cites members of Conservative caucus not vaccinated.
Bergen also misspoke, saying "Dr. Ham — Doctor Tam, Doctor Henry"… happens to the best of us, but it did have a few chuckles on each side of House.

Erin O’Toole’s seat empty as #QP gets underway. Bergen’s tone more aggressive than last Thurs (by which I mean her usual tone); says Trudeau is “overtly politicized” vaccine rollout and should “fix the mess that he’s created.”

Holland replies after 10sec confusion on Lib side
(Me noting tone is to help characterize what approach the interim leader is taking; I am not trying to tone-police but rather point out the dynamic in the House)
Tories are noting recent statements from top docs Tam and Moore that vax mandates and restrictions will need to be reevaluated. The Liberals are arguing that means in long-term and that it’s misleading to characterize it as short-term. Both accuse other of being unscientific

Thread: Here is what the TRC reports from 2015 documented about the former Marieval Indian Residential School on Cowessess First Nation, known as the Grayson school.
I simply took screenshots I took of all mentions that came up in Ctrl+F, and sorted by theme. I may have missed information.

The national 24/7 Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line can be reached at: 1-866-925-4419, including for intergenerational survivors.
Fire-escape doors were locked or not functioning, and there was at least one fire believed to be deliberately set.

(The TRC documents numerous fires, including ones from pupils who deliberately set fires while running away.)

Ottawa reneged this spring on including grain-drying and barn-heating in carbon tax, after years of uproar from farmers.

The budget watchdog released costing this morning, and it suggests the levy costs way more than Ottawa and industry projected: …bution-a617274656661637473.pbo-dpb.ca/0a4cfe7b0a509a… #cdnAg
Alberta govt had pegged 2019-20 cost at $2.7M and the 2021-22 rate at $6.8M.
Bear with me; it's math — but even with a retroactive rebate for prior fiscals, the cost still seems higher than industry/prov estimated. All listed fiscals seem to have similar levy-cost ratio, and I don't think this is balanced out by farms weaning off carbon + 19-20 conditions

PHAC president Iain Stewart has entered the Commons. Stands at the bar (as House had requested, as MPs expressed displeasure over not handing over uncensored document related to National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg sending viruses to Wuhan lab).
Stewart takes off mask, stands with hands behind bar beside the sergeant. Speaker reads out a reprimand over PHAC's "contempt, refusing to submit" the requested document.
Speaker says he got a letter this morning from Stewart's counsel. Bloc refuses unanimous consent to have Speaker share it, as it only exists in one official language.

Haircut condition: obviously overdue

Weather condition: soupy, squinty

Parliament condition: pre-summer partisan push Image
Am in the chamber for the first time in a while and I see about 20 Tories (incl @CandiceBergenMP), two NDP (incl @LeahGazan), a few Bloc and I believe three Liberals.
And buddies @rachaiello @journo_dale (the latter of whom I convinced lives inside this press bannister)
A question was sent to a minister and either they didn’t unmute or it wasn’t clear who would speak, and some Tory MPs starting cooing “whooo, whooo, whooo” 🦉 (This frequently happens but I had never heard the cooing on video.)
