MPPs disclose! Here’s what we learned from the integrity commissioner’s mandatory disclosures documents that were tabled yesterday afternoon 👇🏼:
The number of landlords in the legislature is up from last year. Now, 28 MPPs — or nearly a quarter of the house — are declaring rental income on their disclosures, including 18 PCs (up seven), seven New Democrats, two Liberals (up one) and Roman Baber.
New Blue MPP Belinda Karahalios, who is currently barred from the legislature for 90 days for being unvaccinated and catching Covid, declared investment shares in Novavax Inc., a biopharma firm that develops and sells Covid vaccines.
She did not declare that asset in 2020.
PC MPP Goldie Ghamari got in on the GameStop trend and owns shares of the meme stock.
Her fellow PC benchmate Vijay Thanigasalam added cryptocurrency to his portfolio in 2021.
From what I can tell, the legislature's most prolific landlord is PC MPP Stan Cho. He owns four investment properties in Toronto.
He is also the person fighting the modular supportive housing in Willowdale that the feds already paid for. And his parents own a golf course.
And when it comes to Ghamari and Karahalios, I will note GameStop and Novavax aren't part of broad portfolios for them.
They are the only individual stocks they each own.
Karahalios’ office has responded to my questions about her holdings with the follow statement, which, among other things blames Brian Lilley for my reporting.
She also says she lost $6,000 on her Novavax shares and has since sold them.
She wanted to support the company because she thinks its Covid vaccine is more ethical that mRNA and others.

This is an explainer thread about yesterday’s pharmacy vaccine change, which I think is needed because there is a lot of confusion 🧵
“Select pharmacy locations in hotspots are administering the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine to individuals aged 18 and over,” is the statement I got from Christine Elliott’s office when I asked for details.
The phrasing matters here – the pharmacies are in hot spots, but the individuals receiving the vaccine don’t have to be. That is not how the mobile/pop-up clinics for hotspots are operating.
The province made a huge change to vaccine rules without making an announcement or issuing a press release. Anyone 18+ can now get a Moderna/Pfizer vaccine at a participating pharmacy.
