Google Chrome has 3.2 billion users.

But majority don’t use the hidden features and productivity extensions.

Here are 6 little-known hacks you should start using today. πŸ’»
1/ xTab (set tab limit)

Have 20+ tabs open each day and feel scattered?

This free extension is for you.

Set your tab limit (Ex: 10 or however many you want).

Now you have training wheels for your focus.
2/ Group Tabs

Right-click tab > Add to new group.

Create group called "πŸ›‘ Not right now".

Hide everything, but what you're working on.
3/ Toby for Chrome

Free extension to save tabs into collections.

Like bookmarks, but 10x more useful.

Plus, collections let you open (and save) tabs by workflow.
4/ Video Speed Controller

Free extension to speed up any video.

If you do nothing else today download this right now.

I can't imagine life without it.

Note: can't speed up live zoom meetings, but maybe someday. Image
5/ Chrome Task Manager

Did you know Chrome has its own task manager?

Pop this sucker open next time your browser is crawling.

And spot clunky extensions/ tabs eating up resources.

(3 dots at top right > More tools > Task Manager) Image
6/ Custom Search Engines

Shortcut searches for your frequent websites.

So instead of going to dictionary .com and typing search term, just search directly from address bar.

Do this for ALL your frequent sites (internal too).

(Settings> Search Engines > Manage search engines) Image
TLDR
β€’ xTab (tab limits)
β€’ Grouping tabs ("πŸ›‘ Not right now")
β€’ Toby extension (collections by workflow)
β€’ Video Speed Controller (1.5x speed any video)
β€’ Chrome Task Manager (troubleshoot slow browsing)
β€’ Custom Search Engines (shortcut search any website)

I do a few zoom calls a week with interesting people.

Many I've met on twitter.

When I hear these "phrases" I automatically start liking the person...
This person is a DOER:

"I tried [thing], but found [another thing] works better for me"

"my deep work time is..."

"Action item to..."
This person is strategic and optimizes:

"Highest point of leverage..."

"I was journaling on..."

"Year-end review"

The little-known origin of seed oils in case you were out of the loop.

What once was "toxic waste" now is a staple of our diets. (aka you prob still eat this)

Note: this might actually save your life
1870s depression led to a partnership that would change the world.

William Procter left England with his candle biz.

James Gamble left Ireland to start making soap.

The 2 married sisters in Cincinnati β€” and started a soap and candle-manufacturing company, Procter & Gamble.
Back then, animal fats sold like crack.

They'd break down pigs on the slaughterhouse DISassembly line. (later reverse-engineered by Henry Ford to make cars).

But soon animal fats (key ingredient in soaps) got expensive.

My BEST purchase of 2021?

I took @david_perell's Write of Passage and was blown away. 🀯

I finally get all the hype.

Surprising part was how applicable the lessons were...Not only for writing.
One simple writing framework is also a hack for better conversations. (example to follow)

That alone was worth the price of admission.
The first live Zoom class there were 300+ people from 33 different countries.

I remember thinking, "Okay ready to start writing and tackle some big ideas."

Wrong.

I took a Transcendental Meditation (TM) course years ago and one tip has always stuck with me.

I use it daily.

But NOT for meditation.

I use it for my to-do list.
The instructor explained, regardless of the meditation style...

You'll get distracted with thoughts. (okay duh)

However, it's the immediate response after the distraction β€” that improves your meditation "muscle".
So the very act of recognizing the distraction...

Then returning to the breath (or mantra for TM) is like training a muscle the proper way to exercise.

AKA, getting distracted & returning to what you were doing = a bicep curl for your brain's focus. πŸ’ͺ

The last 2 years I worked w/ @noahkagan every day.

Like right next to him.

First thought, "wow this dude moves fast."

Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised (he was #30 at Facebook, founder of @AppSumo).

But everything felt like 2x speed at first.
While stressful at times, it led to breakthroughs for me personally + professionally.

There were 8 things that were game-changers for me.

Things I wish I learned earlier.

But you can start using them today.

Two years, in two minutes. Leggo. πŸ‘‡
#1 Prioritize NOW, not how.

Noah's instinct is to act first, then think later based on feedback.

I wanted to over-research stuff first. (read a book, take a course, etc.)

My approach = dumb
Noah's approach = smart
