For those of you who thought the Republican Party declaring Jan. 6 "legitimate political discourse" would take hold in the media as a tangible step in the party's endorsement of fascism I'm thrilled to report Politico Playbook's top story is "Republicans say Democrats are bad"
It's just quotes from republicans who say republicans are good at gas prices and democrats are bad at it, and one of them is an authoritative analyst named kellyanne conway who must be credible otherwise why would she be quoted without any context about what she did previously
We're hearing that Trump is good and people like him. Our source is Republicans who like Trump. To confirm we checked with other Republicans who like Trump even more. In the news business this is referred to as double confirmation
This is what modern propaganda looks like: A Republican newsletter, coated with false talking points, framed as independent analysis, presented in a vehicle with a legacy for insider knowledge based on one reporter's work a decade ago, flying under the banner of a news brand

This is the clearest validation and signal of success for the right wing’s 2-year pro-covid misinformation campaign. A solid majority of *everyone* - not just Republicans - believes covid should take over as the media uses covid’s preferred language: people are “ready to move on”
From the very beginning our media elevated this campaign. When Trump and Kayleigh McEnany said covid was a hoax, the flu, or that masks don’t work, the media aired their misinformation briefings live, every day. @jonkarl even congratulated McEnany and said “welcome to the podium”
On Oct. 15, 2020 @NBCNews rewarded Trump for his misinformation campaign with a prime-time town hall in which Trump spread new covid lies, including the lie that masks aren’t just ineffective but that they can *give you covid*. NBC didn’t correct him and continued to air it live
Republicans in Congress lied to the press on Friday and said they couldn’t comment on this because they hadn’t read it. It’s been 72 hours, but instead of asking those same Republicans if they now agree with the RNC resolution, reporters will intentionally forget this happened
Republicans played this game for four years under Trump, repeatedly lying that they hadn’t seen his tweets, knowing that reporters asking them to comment on it wouldn’t give a shit about it the next day. All you have to do is go dark for 24 hours — a weekend is a gift
If you want to know how well this works, try to find what Mitch McConnell said on camera about Trump’s comments defending the Charlottesville nazis. You won’t find anything. McConnell — who was Senate majority leader — ducked the press and was *never* asked about it on camera
All this guy did for four years was write the exact same story every day so it’s no wonder he wants trump back so he can do his wild and fun press conferences once again
Understanding that the media cares far less about reporting what’s true than just repeating whatever the loud wild man says is key to realizing that the news industry is unable and unwilling to hold misinformation spreaders accountable and is used by the GOP simply as a megaphone
Please believe me when I tell you 2022 will only get worse as you bask in the supreme unawareness of a newspaper that declares "democracy dies in darkness" while publishing 3400 starstruck words about a geyser of misinformation who has routinely denied January 6 even happened
It’s strange that there are so many media reporters in the industry and none of them are writing about the influence that Washington Post publisher Fred Ryan — who was Ronald Reagan’s chief of staff — has on dictating story assignments to make Republicans look good and honorable
It is professionally blasphemous that adult journalists who cover Fox News as a job are unaware of what Fox News is
Within the last two months Hawley was given a platform on HBO (Axios) to attack the left for playing video games, and Cruz was given a platform on CBS Face the Nation to say Democrats are destroying the country (@margbrennan responded by praising him for a nice "campaign slogan")
