Chrystia Freeland, second in command to PM Trudeau, just said in a press conference that they can now freeze Canadians’ bank accounts if the government *suspects* you have donated $25.00 or more to the trucking convoy.

Democracy has died today in Canada.

She also said if your vehicle is part of a convoy, the government can freeze your bank accounts and cancel your insurance. She also says banks can do this without court orders.

This is an egregious escalation.

If people weren’t mad about the mandates, they sure have a reason to be mad now.

This would be concerning government overreach in the most authoritarian countries. But in Canada? It’s almost surreal.

I’ll also add that this is the first time since the Second War War that a Western, developed nation has invoked the full extent of its emergency powers to deal with a peaceful protest. There is simply no parallel to this in the history books in the last 75 years.
