🔗 Getting reactive coverage for our clients has been by FAR our most successful linkbuilding strategy lately!
So we’ve put together a thread of tips on how to get your brand/client into the spotlight:
⏰ Think ahead - look at what events are happening in the next few weeks/months.
What’s going to be in the news? Any big Netflix releases going to be trending? What was in the news this time last year?
Plan your comments and strategy AHEAD of time.
🔮 And similarly, see if you can predict the news.
The same news stories come up time and time again, and journos are always looking for comment.
These include topics like:
- New Years resolutions
- Bad weather
- Getting through winter
- Celebs getting engaged/divorced
🎯 And to make sure you’re first, have quotes prepared and signed off, ready to go!
We try and get comments from new clients as soon as they join us, about all different areas of their niche that might come up in the news.
That way, we can act fast when we see a journo request
✍️ …and that brings us onto journo requests. Searching through #journorequests on Twitter (regularly!!) proves 10x more fruitful than HARO or other newsletters - you’re going direct to the journalist, and not battling against 100 other people for a comment.
👯♀️ Going direct to journalists also lets you build up that relationship, so make the most of it!
Say thanks for the coverage, let them know how happy your client was to see it, and keep the door open for any future collaboration!
📣 To sum up:
- Be speedy
- Be relevant
- Plan ahead - the news is a lot less random than you think it is
And enjoy your coverage!
