A NJ pastor and a Florida programmer were convicted in March 2017 of scheming to help illegal bitcoin exchange, Coinmx, avoid having banks and regulators look into its activities. Pastor Trevon Gross, and programmer Yuri Lebedev were convicted of conspiracy and bribery charges.
Yuri Lebedev helped arrange bribes to Gross, including $150,000 in church donations. In exchange, Gross helped the operator of Coinmx, Anthony Murgio, take over a small credit union Gross ran from his church.
Murgio used the credit union to evade scrutiny of banks wary of processing payments involving the bitcoin. Lebedev was accused of working for Coinmx through a front called "Collectables Club."
The trial followed an investigation rooted in the JPMorgan data breach, which lead to charges against nine people.
Gross, Lebedev and Murgio were not accused of hacking. But prosecutors said Coinmx was owned by an Israeli who was behind the breach, Gery Shalon.

This links to Andrei Tyurin, who helped steal personal data of more than 80 million JP Morgan Chase customers in a massive hacking scheme. A global hacking ring ran illegal internet casinos and payment processors and targeted the WSJ publisher and brokers E-Trade and Scottrade.
In January 2021, Audrey Strauss, the Acting USAG for SDNY, announced that Andrei Tyurin aka Andrei Tiurin was sentenced in Manhattan federal court to 144 months in prison for computer intrusion, wire fraud, bank fraud, and illegal online gambling offenses.
Tyurin probably would never have been extradited from Russia to the US but he vacationed in Georgia in 2018 where Gery Shalon‘s father Shota Shalelashvili had massive political influence at the time. Shalon reportedly snitched on Tyurin to US prosecutors.
Consequently, Tuyrin was arrested in Georgia and extradited to the U.S. in September 2018. Shalon is also a suspect in the Vienna Cybercrime Trials around one of his other “family members,” Gal Barak.

@Gast5502 Thread⬆️⬇️ Media reports have referred to Barak as the Wolf of Sofia, and described him as the ringleader of the massive scam being investigated by Austrian and German police. In September 2020, the Vienna Regional Criminal Court sentenced Barak to four years in prison.
