I've gone back and forth on posting this bc it might upset some folks. But, nothing else has worked, so here goes. Iowa Democratic leadership is sleeping on one of the most important electoral issues of this cycle. Let's talk about it. 🧵
I'm a dedicated rural Democrat. I chair my county party. I represent the 4th district on the IDP central committee. I sit on the operations committee. I work the polls every election. I'm serving on the Absentee Board next month for a special election. I put in the work. 2/
So, it's incredibly frustrating watching the Party fumble the ball. We can, and must, do better.
What's the issue? There are 2 paid organizers in all of Iowa working on the carbon pipeline issue full time. I'm one of them. I talk to rural Republican voters every day. 3/
They're pissed. Their land is being stolen by private corporations. And our Republican Governor has endorsed it. They don't want to vote for her again. This is a prime opportunity to pick up votes in deep red, rural areas which is critical for statewide races. 4/
But nobody is acting on it. I've sent emails to hundreds of local and state elected officials regarding the co2 pipelines. Guess who responds? The GOP. I've had 2 emails returned from Democrats. I've held half a dozen events. Guess who comes? GOP. I've seen 4 Dems total. 5/
This isn't meant to be criticism. It's meant to be advice. I'm tweeting bc every other communication method hasn't worked. Private meetings, emails, educational sessions haven't yielded strong public opinions. So I'm at a loss. We need to stand up and support Iowans. Now. 6/
Want to move rural Iowa blue? It's not broadband. It's not the price of beans. It's carbon pipelines that'll be the winning issue this cycle. This campaign has more momentum than any I've ever witnessed in Iowa. Its time for Dems to stop sleeping on it. 7/
Whenever Democrats are ready to work for rural votes and join the fight for our lives, our land, and our future, you know where to reach me. 8/8
