When Wei Ying chose Meet the Robinsons to watch with A-Yuan, he was not expecting a serious conversation.
“He lives in an.. orange, baba?” A-Yuan frowns at the screen.
Wei Ying huffs out a small laugh. “Orphanage, sweetheart. It’s where I got you, remember?”
A-Yuan frowns deeper. “I was there too? When I was a small baby?”
“Yes, sweetheart.” Wei Ying frowns with him. Maybe this movie wasn’t a good choice, after all. He had just gotten the adoption papers finalized last month, after fostering him for half a year. A-Yuan is just five.
Maybe he should have left movies that may broach the topic for when A-Yuan is more settled with him? When he’s a bit older?
A-Yuan looks up at him, clear eyes big and curious, a serious frown in between his brows. “Did.. did my mama leave me there too? In a basket?”
“I..” Wei Ying stares at his son, still so small Wei Ying can fit him in his arms and close to his heart and yet—
His son looks so grown up, like this. Wei Ying’s heart aches.
He takes a deep breath, trying to stop himself from crying. “Sweetheart, you know I love you, yes?”
A-Yuan nods, eyes wide.
“And I always tell you your mama loves you too, so, so much.” Wei Ying knows that much from the orphanage, at least.
A-Yuan nods again. “But she got sick, so she became a star.”
“Yeah, like that.” Wei Ying bites his lip, carefully looking for words.
“It’s just.. sometimes.. even when we love a person so much.. we know someone else can take care of them and love them best.” Wei Ying stares at his son, trying to will his words so A-Yuan can understand. “Your mama couldn’t do it when she has to become a star,
so she brought you at the orphanage, so they can find someone who can love you and take care of you more.”
“Oh.” A-Yuan blinks, looks down and fiddles with his fingers. He’s so quiet for a while that Wei Ying starts to panic that he fucked it up when A-Yuan called for him.
“Baba,” A-Yuan turns to him, shifting closer to his side. Wei Ying quickly opens his arms, wrapping himself around his small son.
“Yes, love?”
A-Yuan shifts into his lap, burying his face onto Wei Ying’s chest.“You love me the best.”
Wei Ying feels the worry in him settle down, his heart loosening into a million strings. “Really?”
“Mn. Baba loves me the best. So don’t give me away, okay?”
“Oh, sweetheart.” He hugs A-Yuan tightly, his small, beautiful boy, and kisses the top of his head. “Baba isn’t going anywhere. You’ll be stuck with baba for life.”
A-Yuan nods against his chest, content with being stuck with his Baba for quite a while.
And if Wei Ying suddenly starts eating healthy and having an extra amount of self preservation after that.. well.
He did promise his A-Yuan to stay with him. He would need to be healthy and alive for it.

Loving the idea of Wei Wuxian, self-proclaimed bachelor for life. He’s accepted he’s not made for kids or family! I mean, he likes kids, sure, but SURELY he can’t be responsible enough for a very small being!
Obviously, he’s proven wrong.
Wwx’s life had been a roller coaster, but now he’s in his 30s, in the tech business and making a shit ton of money. He buys himself a bachelor’s house in the same village as his sister bcos ofc he would stay close to her now that he could afford it!
He builds his house and he makes it super effing cool, which also means it’s most likely unsafe for both drunks and children alike.
The lans are a cultivating sect, but are secluded—far enough that they don’t really interact with the other sects

Wq sees lwj in wwx’s body and immediately /knows/. Lwj explains that no, wwx is not possessed, he doesnt know how he got here.
Wq explains how they got to BM, ommitting the golden core part.
Lwj is /apalled/ to be in the body of a demonic cultivator.
It’s much more fragile, with more chronic pain involved than he imagined. It’s obviously weak. He attributes this all to demonic cultivation.
He understands how they got here, though—that these people are not evil, and are meant to be protected.
