this is for a canceled laserdisc-based arcade game called Albegas/Cybernaut, it's based on an anime called Kousoku Denjin Albegas (Lightspeed Electroid Albegas).
I really don't know how you cancel an animation-based game THAT LATE into development as already pressing discs.
making laserdiscs is not cheap. animation is not cheap.
What the heck happened so late in the production that meant the game never made it to arcades?
I mean, maybe they reused a ton of animation from the show itself? I don't know.
still, even if most of it was just captured from the show, they had to do SOME animation, and they had to press laserdiscs. I've heard different amounts but the one number that seems to be accepted is 100,000$ to start a laserdisc run.
so all I can imagine is that there was some super-thorny rights issue that came up last moment and therefore it had to be shelved, because it seems like no matter what you'd want to finish this project to recover at least SOME of the money you'd already thrown at it
oh wait I think I'm misreading... I think it DID come out? just not in the US.
So this is a pressing for a planned US adaptation that didn't make it.
that still means they threw laserdisc-pressing money at it, but at least that means the japanese release justified the animation
that makes a lot more sense
there's a video of this disc on youtube:
bad idea: laserdisc game jam
the basic idea is that your game has to work by overlaying minimal graphics (like a score and a pointer) onto a youtube video, which you control the playback of
for easy mode, you use youtube videos of laserdisc game rips, like this one

Does anyone know how to get Xubuntu 21.10 to stop blanking my fucking display?
I've turned off the screensaver and set the power manager to not ever blank my screen, but it keeps going to sleep.
one of the suggestions on reddit to fix the problem in xubuntu 20.04 is to install xscreensaver and then turn it off
that is the worst idea I have ever heard.
I did it, though. Let's see if it works.
