Let's back up for a second. As of just a few weeks ago, NSO Group said that Pegasus *physically* couldn't operate on Israeli phone numbers. That massive lie is confirmed by this investigation and it is being buried. BUT
How much can we trust the Israeli investigation of their own use of Pegasus? There are obvious conflicts.
If Calcalist was wrong about Pegasus being used to spy on activists and Netanyahu's inner circle, then there is a massive information war happening. Who would benefit from these reports? Well... Netanyahu would. He's on trial, and it has already been delayed.
So a) The Israeli police investigation was legit and someone was feeding Calcalist explosively false stories that just so happened to delay Netanyahu's trial or b) the Israeli investigation was a sham and Pegasus was abused.

If a) is true, then there should be an investigation into the obstruction of Netanyahu's trial that these allegedly false rumors caused. There's a possibility that Calcalist fell into a powerful influence campaign.
