5 mental models from the book Rich Dad Poor Dad 📚

//Thread// Image
Rich Dad Poor Dad is one of the most influential personal finance books ever created.

It goes over the basics of how rich people use money to:

1. Invest
2. Build wealth
3. Achieve financial freedom

All of this may seem complex, but it's simpler than you think.
1. Educate yourself on basic financial literacy

Head to @Investopedia and study these terms:

- Assets
- Income
- Liabilities
- Expenses
- Net worth

Understanding these concepts is the first step to becoming rich.

Study. Understand. Apply.
2. Go broke buying assets

Rich people love buying:

- Stocks
- Real estate
- Cryptoassets

Why? Because these things put money in their pockets.

Go broke buying assets and make your money work for you.
Index funds are my favorite asset. I like index funds because they're:

- Cheap
- Passive
- Diversified
- Outperform 99% of investors
- Have an amazing track record

The path to financial freedom starts with index funds. Start investing today: gumroad.com/a/383865971/ua… #aff
3. Learn outside of school

School's primary goal is to teach you how to be a good employee.

If you want to be rich, you must educate yourself:

- Read books
- Listen to podcasts
- Watch documentaries

The knowledge you build outside of the classroom is what'll make you rich.
4. How much you make is irrelevant

It's never about how much you make. It's always about how much you keep.

You can make over $100K, but if you spend all of it, that 6 figure salary is worthless.

What matters most is how much you're able to save and invest.
5. Perspective is everything

Rich:

- "The reason I must be rich is because I have kids."
- "I need to learn how to manage risk."
- "How can I afford that?"

Poor:

- "The reason I'm not rich is because I have kids."
- "I can't take risks with my money."
- "I can't afford that."
Educate yourself on money, save aggressively, invest aggressively, and never stop learning.

Repeat these actions consistently, and you will with no doubt become wealthy.

Here are 6 mental models from the book The Psychology Of Money 📚

//Thread//
1. Psychologically Reasonable > Financially Rational

Personal finance is more than numbers on a spreadsheet. It's about emotions.

If a decision will keep you up at night, it probably isn't worth it.

Find the middle ground between financial math and your mindset.
2. Behavior > Intelligence

"A genius who loses control of their emotions can be a financial disaster." - @morganhousel

It doesn't matter how smart or educated you are. If you can't control how you BEHAVE, you will never be wealthy.

Here are 3 concepts I've learned from Atomic Habits 📚

//Mini Thread// Atomic Habits Cover
1. The Power Of 1% 📈

Big success doesn't mean big action.
Big success means consistent action.

1% Better Each Day ~ This is all you need to improve

Here's a quote that kinda goes well with this ⏬

"Go to bed a little smarter each day."

- Warren Buffett The Power Of 1%
2. Systems > Results ✨

Goals are the results you want.
Systems are the processes that get you to your results.

Instead of focusing on the goals, focus on the systems.

Envision your desire and create a process that'll get you there. Systems > Goals

Budget - An estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time

Budgets give you clarity on where your money is coming in and where it's going out 🌊

//Thread// Budget Illustration
Print out your monthly statements and figure out where your money is coming in and going out

Mark your expenses as either WANTS or NEEDS. Try to minimize the WANTS as much as possible

Takes some sacrifice but over the long-term, a budget will give you freedom 💸 Cash Flow Locations
Some folks like to use spreadsheets using specific budgeting methods such as the 50/30/20 🧮

I like using apps, here are some budgeting apps ⏬

- Intuit Mint (@mint)

Financial Freedom - When you control your finances instead of being controlled by them

Financial Freedom gives you the ability to do WHATEVER YOU WANT 😉

Let's break it down ⏬

//Thread// Anime Money Clip
1. Awareness & Organization 📄

You need to get your finances organized

Where's your money coming in? Where is it going out? The more awareness of your money the better

A budget is king for this, check out apps like @PersonalCapital and @mint 📊 Personal Capital LogoIntuit Mint Logo
2. Emergency Fund 🕊

You should always have at least six months worth of expenses saved up

You never know what life can throw at you, that's why an emergency fund is absolutely essential

Save some cash and put it somewhere easily accessible

DO NOT undermine this step 🤬 Money Illustration
