The Senate has declared a state of emergency on Nigerian roads amidst hike in airfares.
On the floor of the red chamber on Tuesday, lawmakers
discussed the issue of the hike in airfares and its impact on Nigerians.
The matter was raised by Senator Gershom Bassey citing Order 41 and 51. Seconding the motion, Senator George Sekibo said “The prices of airfare has gone so
high” and that there was a need for action to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians
After deliberation, the senate resolved to “As a matter of urgency, declare a state of emergency on the nation’s
roads and adhere to the recommendations of the Ad-Hoc Committee chaired by the Senate Leader on the disbursement of the 5 per cent accrued funds to FERMA.”
